Mates ,
As per My Commitment To You That You Will See a Core i7 Preview and Then a Review From Lynx Much Before The Launch of This From Intel on 17th Nov 2008 .Well Here is The Photographic Preview .
As Per Commitment From My Local Channel Team Mr Vicky Tickoo ,Mr Bharat and Mr Raghu " Who Always is Busy But Finds Time For Me ,Very Hard Working Soul " . The Board Was In My Store Late Saturday Evening Via Bluedart ,That Was Some Speed It Reached Me From Bangalore As it Started From There On 6th and Reached Me On 8th .Two Boxes Of The Same Were Received ,One Was the Motherboard And One Was The CPU .The CPU Box Was Very Long And I Was Wondering What It Will Have Inside It .Here Look At The Photo of The Same .
Well After Opening The Box i Felt Some Relief As The Core i7 Extreme 965 Was Stacked In a White colored Box and The Box used In the above Photo Was To Protect it In Transport .The Was Also Some Paper Stacking By Intel To Prevent The Box From Damage By Movement In the Courier ,Kudos To Intel.
Here Have a Closeup Shot of The Processor Box Packing ,I Am sure the Actual Retail Pack Would Be Much colorful And Brighter .
Once This White Box Was Opened I Was Thrilled To Find The 1000 USD Processor Along With Its Heatsink Waiting For Me To Touch it .The Heatsink Was Not As Small As The 45nm Core 2 Duo And The Core 2 Quads .Have a Look At The Open Box of The Same .
Once the Processor And the Heatsink Was Out From The Box they Looked Like this .
The Fan And Heatsink is definitely not small ,But As The Core i7 Has The Memory Controller Inside It It Needed Lots of More Pins To Send Data To Memory .This Has Resulted In The size Go Bigger ,the Socket is Now Called the LGA 1366 Socket .So Hence The Fan and Heatsink Are Also Large .I Will dig More Info On The Heat Part in The Review We Do Later On .You Will Notice That The Fan Heatsink Also Has Copper in Many Places ,This Creates a Beautiful Design In The Top Side Of The Heatsink Also ,The Fan Mounted On Top In My Heatsink Was From Delta ,The Brand Itself Means a Lot To Me As i Sell Delta Products And They Are World Class MTBF Products .MTBF "Mean Time Between Failure " For The Once Who Do Not Know The Same .You Will Also Notice The Core i7 Extreme Processor In This Plastic Packing Stacked Vertically .Well Lets Turn The Heatsink Upside Down and Have a Look Of The Same .
You Will Notice That The Center of the Heatsink is a Large Round Coppered Metal ,This is To Suck The Heat To The Last Drop Out From the Core i7 Extreme .I Do Not Have In Hand the i920 But i Am sure It Might Have a Little smaller Heatsink ,Might Be This is The Extreme Processor or Might Be They Might Still Change The Heatsink And Fan .This Also Has the Plastic Tabs To Mount the Fan To The Motherboard ,The Backside of The LGA 1366 Socket Has a Large Metal So Bending of The Board And The Socket Is Not As Much As Designs of Other Older Boards ,The Metal Is There For Sure In The DX58SO Board I Have I Have No Idea About The Boards From ASUS ,Gigabyte and MSI .They Too Might Have It .Installing Heatsink From Third Party Should Not Be Much of a Hassel Too .Lets Us Now Concentrate On The Processor Itself ,Have a Closeup View Of The Same .
Here We See The Actual Processor The Nehalem Core i7 Extreme 965 .The Die Size of The Processor Has Increased and So Has The Size And The Socket .This Processor Is Well Packet In a Protective Plastic Casing Also .The Other Processors The Regular Core i7 920 That i Am Getting In Few Numbers And The Core i7 940 The Middle End performer Will All Look The Same .The Processor in Question Had Te Following Specs .
Quote:
Max Core Frequency :3.2Ghz ,Max Memory Speed Bus :1066 And The Document Says That The 1333 Mhz Bus Will Shortly Be Supported Via a Microcode Update ,Processor No TBD ,TDP :130 Watts ,Stepping :C0 ,L3 Cache :8MB And Lots of Other Thingi
I Will Like To Close This Preview With Lots of Respect And Gratitude To Intel As This Design Is also a Great Design and Will Definately Rock the World Like The Way it Rocked Its Competitor When It Launched The Core 2 Duo Platform ,I Exect To See a Lot of Microcode Updates ,Lots of Desktop Boards Revisions And Updates And Also Lots of Exciting Products By ASUS ,Gigabyte and MSI For This CPU .I Will Now Focus In Providing The Preview of The Intel Original DX58SO Board .I Will and Might Update Sections Of This Preview Till 17th Nov
