The screenshots look amazing  .

DOOM engine means it will run on my 9600 pro  i will have to download it with my 64k connection :(

the game was written using Direct3D and not OpenGL as Doom 3 engine is based on , so it looks way better than the original one for example : Quake 4 etc.

um.. you didnt read their Preview ??

For those who were dismayed at the poor performance of Quake 4, the last Doom 3 engine game to hit the Xbox 360, take heart: even in its unfinished state, Prey was running nice and smooth in 720p and played well with Halo-style controls. Luckily, the developer has essentially gutted the engine's graphics subsystem and rewritten it to use Direct3D instead of OpenGL, resulting in vastly improved performance over Quake 4.

LOL at you :P :)

I have no idea what that dude is talking about... First of all XBOX 360 does not support opengl, so it has to be D3D and they'd be mad to even touch d3/q4 code on PC and try to hack up anything else... if carmack codes it, it can't be optimized further :P. I think the poor dude is just confused.

yes you said it ! thats why they rewrote Doom 3 engine in D3D .
Timothy Gerritsen, CEO of Human Head Studios(developer for Prey game) LINK said this
"With their help, Prey is sure to breathe new life into the first person shooter genre with a compelling story, innovative gameplay mechanics and dazzling imagery, which is powered by our significantly enhanced version of id Software's original Doom 3 engine."

LINK since Venom is handling the '360 version of Prey. I hesitate to really say whether it was super-easy or not easy. It's definitely its own challenge with the multiple processors. I can tell you that it's been a hell of a lot of work for Venom to convert things over. I mean, one of the first things they said they did was convert the renderer to Direct 3D from Open GL, since the Xbox 360 does Direct 3D. I would say that overall it's slightly less-powered than my desktop PC. So from a development standpoint, what they've been doing is converting everything over from the PC version and working from that.
Overall, it's been a good process, because while we're helping optimize the Xbox 360 version, Venom's helping us with things that further optimize the PC version.
Probably D3D(Doom 3 engine) for xBox 360 and OpenGL for PC .

Xbox ports of id games have always used d3d even if they were originally coded in opengl.
Why would microsoft allow opengl to be used on their own console after all the time and money they invested in making directX the industry standard?

The pc counterpart still uses opengl afaik.
And quake4 ran crap only on the x360, the pc version is smooth even on my old'ish pc. So I think they are talking about the x360 version.

^^Hehe exactly... as I said, once Carmack touches rendering code, its more or less certain it *cannot be* optimized further. If you check q3 code, you'll realize how good he really is at extracting that last bit of performance out of hardware. If only operating systems were coded that well, we'd be running Vista on a P2
