Just to add up...I got my refund for the Sedna USB 3.0 PCI-E adapter today. I had ordered around 20 days back and since the item was back ordered for quite sometime I had asked for refund last weekend. Its always been a perennial problem about stocks and online prices ! Can we have a newegg in India please, even flipkart showed their colors by cancelling the orders ? I guess with current retarded dealers and distributors we can't have something as good as newegg for quite some time. One of the product managers called me from flipkart and explained to me how retarded the computer hardware distributors are and they are having a very hard time negotiating with people who are tech uneducated people. Its not quite polished as the Apparel, Books industry yet !

"Very hard time" is so very true. A lot of people want to claim to be the "newegg of India" "The amazon of India" and all that jazz but they shy away from issues that people have with them. Distris are another samples. Taiwan guys asking Indian distributors why don't you sell anything more than 1600MHz CL9 (even 1600MHZ CL7) because there's no1 in who does such heavy duty task in India where one would require high performance rams and people will not spend for it. This is the reply (mostly the exact same words) that the Indian distributors tell to Asia pacific sales/distribution/PR heads.

Amazon is definitely on for next year guys, may be they'll teach all these guys who take us for granted what it is to be a true internet giant. Then again there's also a chance that amazon itself is buried under the mountain of our incompetence/inadequacies which can only be avoided if they have control over every department.

I really hope the companies like letsbuy, indiatimes, and all the countless cheap ones that crop up every minute someone takes the source code off of an existing website are shut down because their cheap products and even cheaper consumer handling just cannot sustain themselves in the face of Amazon and newegg.

@roshan

don't you think the 'free' word is rather associated with 'assistance' than 'rma'?

they handle the process entirely, from employing a department for it to follow ups with customers..

not quiet fair when you mock them on the basis of punctuality in language for something that no other dealer there is interested in providing..

I do feel that now is the time that distributors brush up their knowledge about what computers are all about...and not think it as a piece of hardware for pc, which we usually get is of lower grade quality from which the wheels of profit are turned...people all around the world have moved for example RAM with higher freq.,lower latency like cl8-cl7 1800mhz-2133mhz,in India we still run on 1333-1600 cl9-cl10.......If you people dont bring up to date hardware how the hell we will buy?
And as we Potential buyers not always look for cheap "chalta hai" hardware (in price).....better price better hardware.we always look for low-end systems.now-a-dayz people are buying mainstream hardware but not in mass.
If your budget is less plan your hardware purchase monthly, this way you are sure you are getting good quality hardware.
And top of it educate yourself about pc hardware,we are here to help but do some research yourself also.

Just my POV on Potential buyers of computer hardware.

Have purchased many system from prime..... But never had any issue with them except few times when they quoted very high prices.... But that ws a minor issue....

Also they should not ask money for diagnosing the issue... Their main source of income is by selling hardware not by charging for diagnosis.... It seems people needs to be very very much careful before buying anything now from any shop....

after sales diagnosis is not a right of the customer in a retail industry unless it is a 'paid service'

Guys, please do not be emotional about 'what you may feel', 'what one may expect as favour' etc...atleast not as long as it costs the provider. Would you in your sane mind provide services that are not your responsibility for free?

RMA is a liability of the distributor and prime can easily ask the customer to contact rma center directly (like other retailers and distributors do); asking for diagnosis and checkup for free on top of the assistance is just stepping out of the line. Put yourself in position of a retailer and you would know how difficult that can be to provide the same to every customer you deal with.

@madnav

I understand your point of view about diagnosis not being a customers right but it is all about the competition. Other stores on Lamington Rd don't charge you anything even if you get your entire PC to them. They will do a diagnosis on the spot and tell you what part the problem is with.

just do a comparo of what they charge you to what prime charges.

and it is just the case that they will assemble your pc.

for trouble shooting all other stores do charge a fixed amount.

I would not agree to 'what other shops do'

Was customer's PC operated by sales division or a technician who has no interest in sales figures?

(salesman wouldn't get extra salary for switchover, but employer is already shelling out salary for a designated technician)

A salesman is not a technician and a technician is not a salesman. But if that salesman is trying to be a technician then it is to promote sales. It is not costing the businessman anything extra when this salesman switches job. But do you trust the expertise of these salesmen on technical diagnosis?

It is not called a favour, it is called marketing.

1. Customer believes he gets more than what he paid for

2. Salesman succeeds in making customer believe in his Technical capabilities.

3. Customer brings more friends with confidence.

4. Salesman sells more crap to this customer.

5. Profit.

There are no favours in business, face it or ignore it.

I got back my new RMAd motherboard today:

  • When I reached there, I received an apology from both the technical and sales department.
  • My motherboard was given to me with almost no wait time.
  • I was even offered a checkup but I declined anyway.
  • I was refunded my Rs. 200.
  • I submitted my board on the 19th and got it on the 30th which means they only took 11 days instead of the usual 15 days.

Overall in retrospect this has been a very satisfying experience and I will most probably buy from Prime again. I hope I haven't discouraged too many potential buyers. You have stayed true to your motto "ABGB" and hopefully this will only be a small bump on the way.

Apart from that, a special thanks to Mr. Bhatia for taking feedback seriously and also the techenclave community. Also would like to thank chiragsthakur.
