I have the dot matrix printer Epson LQ300+ and was always used before with windows XP.
Now with the new laptop here, i connected the printer to the laptop (windows 7 Ultimate) and it detected the printer fine and also installed the drivers too. Then i tried to print the test page and nothing happened. In the queue i was able to see the document and status as "Printing".
It did print once but it was totally unexpected as it happened when i rebooted the laptop and while it was booting, the printer started to print the test page. After that i tried numerous times to remove the device and add again and it even did not print the test page.

So now i use my own different laptop (windows 7) and attach the printer to it and it installed the same drivers (names were same) and here the test page printed fine and also i was able to print another random document. Tried with couple more and all worked.

Now i have no idea why the same thing is not working in the first laptop. It is pretty important for it to work.
Any suggestions ?

Don't you have installation disks for the printer? I had a similar problem with my HP printer too. I resolved it by changing driver in printer properties to HP driver instead of Microsoft default driver. I don't remember it clearly now, but you get that properties page in printer settings. It shows com ports and all in those settings.

Actually windows 7 automatically identified the printer properly and installed it fine and in my sony laptop and printout also worked. Now on my Lenovo laptop, i reinstalled windows 7 again and this time i installed the 64 bit version. Not sure if that helped but now the printer worked on the lenovo again. It is just that after firing the print it takes like 5 seconds for the printout to actually start. I hope this does not stop working.
This was very very important for my dad.
