Forum Feedback "Private Conversations" instead of "Private Messages"

If we have a chat system, it will also have a quota. If you say (like someone suggested earlier) that it could be automatically deleted after 7-14 days, then it could also be applied to the PM system.

This is a public forum, not a social networking site with members having some interests in common. We have FB groups for that. The whole purpose of opening threads and asking things in public is so that others can also read and have discussions. With chat, I can guarantee you that the number of things being asked publicly will reduce, as people always want the easiest way out. They will mostly just chat with some experienced member and get the solution to their questions, and the negative of it is that everything will be private. I or someone else will not know of it, defeating the whole purpose of a public forum. And anyways we cant just have a entirely new system for Off-topic discussions. We already have GT, albeit that's public but that's the whole point of a forum, aint it?
The reason everyone's requesting for the conversation view is , it becomes much easier to keep track of your messages and replies with members. Otherwise a lot of time one has to go Sent Items and check the last reply to keep a tab on the conversation . This especially happens when I get a reply from some member after 5-6 days .
This is not only useful from market deals via PMs point of view but even otherwise .A lot of times guys PM asking for some help / suggestions . At times the conversations can go upto 8-10 PMs exchanges from each side over a period of 1-2 weeks . Having conversation layout will make it so much easier to keep tab of such PMs.
Hope it is implemented soon .
Not really in favour of any Instant messaging / chat system on TE .It will probably end up in less participation in the forum thread as everyone will be busy chatting
Also result in higher loads on server I guess.

Chat will not be implemented but we can relook at the way conversation happens in the market section. Not before the end of year though as we have other priority items lined up for TE.
I think you are referring to threaded view. It seems it is already persent. See below post.

This is basically a Tech Forum , Market and other stuff comes as a bonus but the main objective of the forum is Tech discussion . Now say , I am willing to buy a new PC . I have a decent budget but I am confused over 3 different components and I decide that I can use the help of the forum members . Nice. It starts and I get 5 different options . Fair enough .
Now , I am talking to 5 different people regarding 5 different issues and I feel that each of them have something to offer to me and tracking forum will be a peace of cake for me if the private conversations i enabled. The way you suggested is also ok but then again , I am on another forum which implemented the private conversations and I feel communicating to people on that forum is just easier . Now , My point is we all buy gadgets , phones , Electronics because we are Tech Enthusiastic's and even if there is a small upgrade our minds want that upgrade. Because it is easier, simpler.
Now the point I am trying to make is that Enabling that will be easy for us . I know it is a small upgrade for us but the look and fell will be better . Now coming towards you . I have no knowledge the amount of effort that It will take to implement that so if you say that it is not feasible for the time being, I am going to accept that because you will look a broader picture . You have your priorities about the forum and implementing something else might benefit the forum more than the "PM".
So bottom line , The upgrade will be welcomed by everyone as It will ease things , Implementing that when is your choice . I feel that sooner or later that has to be done .
