Private IPs assigned by ISP and how does it affect my internet experience ?

Inspired by the thread which @honest1 opened, I have started this one. He is using an ISP named netcom broadband and I am using MTNL for now. But I am planning to switch my ISP to netcom broadband.
It is basically a wireless broadband provider in my area (like tikona).

Now honest1 is facing an issue where port forwarding is not working and @vivek.krishnan has told that it is because the ISP is using private IPs through a NAT. This also blocks torrents which is a deal breaker.
I usually use public trackers so seeding is not really a concern but I should be able to at least download stuff using utorrents and such softwares. I really don't want to go through using VPN and such.

Now I am totally noob when it comes to these terminologies like private IPs and NAT and such.
So as an end user who wants to use internet for things like..

Web Browsing
Youtube streaming
Direct downloads
Torrent Downloads
Skype calls
Facetime calls (using iOS devices).

How does it affect my usage ? What things will and will not work ? Anything over and above listed can also be mentioned by you.
This is a make or break thing for me and if torrents are not going to run properly then I will have to shun the ISP and not make the switch.

@cisco_tech also tagging you.

@raksrules I think you are worrying too much. All the above listed by you works fine. What is not working is that you cannot access your home network from external IP. So, you need to decide whether you need to access it from outside network or not.

I have never accessed my home network from external IP so I don't even know what that means. But yes I occasionally connect to my home laptop using team viewer on my phone or laptop (in a different city). This should also work.
With torrents, I read online that it is "Not connectable from outside". What does this really mean ? I won't be able to seed ? Will it affect downloading through public trackers?
The only private trackers I use are desitorrents and IPT and those are used very rarely. I only use public trackers.

Then i would suggest dont get local ISP cable connection. you can talk to them once and ask for port forwarding and private IPs. but i think they wont bother about it. and asking all these technical terms would be another PITA.

@honest1 says that the things are working. If he is available, I plan to visit his place this weekend to check it out once before I take the plunge.

One more question on this front..

Currently with my internet connection, if I go to website http://whatismyipaddress.com/ it shows me my Location as Pune/Mumbai which is correct and IP is also correct.
Now say I connect to a VPN service (say on mobile) and go to same URL again, then it shows me US IP and location as some city in US.

How will this work with Private IPs ? Same as above ? I need VPN to work exactly as before.

Your VPN will still work. The IP that will be seen will not be your private IP assigned by the new ISP but of the public IP that are assigned to them, via which you are interfacing with the internet.

So, similarly, on new ISP when you go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ it will show you one of the public IPs of the new ISP, and when you try again through VPN, it will show the US data assuming you are sticking to the same VPN provider.
