I am very confused.
I can view Market and General talk even when not signed in. :S

Just sometime back the entire General talk section was made private when requested for making 'events and meets' section private.
It used to be private much earlier iirc and was good too maybe as certain discussions used to get very heavy at times and at times a bit of personal info also cropped up in some.

And Market was made private too for quite some time but open now?

So what's private and what is not and will some staffer please update us why so? :)

p.s. i didn't apply for "premium" whatever- so not sure if it's because of that. :ashamed:
And i have been posting merrily in GT thinking it's private and just realised it's public. :O
 
Something is wrong. Those sections are indeed visible to guests without logging in for some reason.

I am not aware of policy changes to be honest.

Reported to admins.

Traditionally these sections were hidden from guests and hence away from google spiders as it was diluting TE's image in SE as fun site rather than technical site iirc, with all top search results being from stupid fights and flamewars or jokes from GT section.

Not to mention Coupon sharing :P

TE meets (they contain content private to the members)

i wonder google may show up these threads when some whacko searches for 'meeting people in india at public places for fun'

and all the absurd queries that GT contains..
..who knows.. the most popular search suggestion of 'how to get pregnant' when tying 'how to' may change to 'how to get b**ches pregnant'

now who would want that??!!

I was so excited getting a reply from Chaos sir after not being in regular touch with him and you all for so long,

i was farting from every hole. :ashamed:

(as i thought GT is private and maybe it's ok to indulge in some in in-thread convo like we did in the older days when not many were connected via IM, etc)

Market is maybe open to attract newbies who may get lured by good deals on used stuff but it's ok to spare GT too just like 'Events and meets' was i guess. :)

In fact, when 'E&M' was made private, the whole of GT was too iirc.

It does get a bit too personal at times when we get carried away.

But someone wouldn't like being addressed as Sheroo or Renu by some n00b in the very first interaction i guess.

Bad example but couldn't think of others now as my my body has woken up but my brain is still at rest. :P

That's what all know already and are totally ok with it, i feel.

GT is for the benefit of registered members to indulge in some non-tech discussions.

If we do get a PM from someone saying he/she registered just now as they can't see GT as a guest anymore, then maybe we need to rethink. :P

No example no talk :P You know we are open to closing. Pun intended.

GT was always an open section on TE earlier. It was made private only to hide it from search engines. Now it has been made public again. So lets understand with precise examples how this action is going to adversely affect the members.
