Would it be possible to host a torrent tracker so that we can seed things like applications, wallpapers and stuff ?

Strictly no warez stuff or movies.

Is this a feasible idea for the admins to consider. If not, what are the challenges ?
 
the new posts get disabled when the forums get a bit burdened, forget about torrent tracking :p
i guess they also need a new backend, not possible if using a shared server
 
meh, i want TE to be the first one of its kind. set some records and stuff ;P.

Is that bad of me to think that way :ashamed:

There are numerous Indian trackers both in private & public domain.... Those are sufficient for anybodies need....
 
A tracker with no ahem stuff = useless. Seriously i don't think its required at TE. What will we track ? Linux distro's? Free to download Apps and Wallpapers ? How many other trackers are there for that already ?
 
^^ exactly, I dont recall a single of that, without warez. And ok, so this idea is not being well recieved. But I think overall it would be a good idea for all of us.

The argument of a different public tracker will fulfill the needs is as useless as "there were other tech forums to discuss all things we end up discussing here. Why form TE."

Or maybe I have not been able to express the integration of forums and tracker in a way that benefit people, that I see as a design in my head.
 
lol, nothing is safe by that argument. I could very well post obscenities in this post, letting many people go though it until a) I am reported or b) a mod finds it out.

Its left up to the better judgment of people with moderation where required.
 
Besides the bandwidth thing, heres another reason why its not a good idea. Its easy to say, "No warez" But whos going to approve,police any torrents that get submitted?

Expecting users to report such torrents leaves open the option that the torrent will be online for some time, leaving TE open to the possibility of being charged with copyright infringement and stuff. I dont think anyone of us wants TE to be stuck in such a scenario. :)

Also IMO it is not feasible and right to convert a tech forum to a p2p tracker.....

Did you not get something in the normal trackers that gave you this idea....:huh:

Private trackers are born out of requirement and have to filter and ban a lot of members to finally get the best seeders and sharing people...I don't think anyone here is ready for something like that where you get banned for inactivity, low ratio, cheating, abuse or comments, or crap uploads.....
Imagine a feedback threads in TE sayin "why did i get banned" and all :rofl:

policing iis possible by volunteers however the lawsuit ipart is hard to ignore. I wouldn't want te to face such a thing.

A tracker for free stuff that can already be found elsewhere on the internet is really high on my list of wants.
