Problem in displaying graphs after installing Winzip, .net files culprit?

Hi

I am using a stock market software that displays several graphs
Everything was working fine
Last week I downloaded winzip to open a .rar file.
Since then I am unable to open the heavy graphs in my desktop without the cpu usage shooting to 100%
I have since then uninstalled the winzip, but the problem still remains.

I suspect that the program may have made changes to the .net files.
(I have zero idea about winzip or .net files and how they function.)
It is a wild wild guess.
Should i uninstall all the .net files and install them again, or am I barking up a wrong tree ?

Thanks for advising

if its just integrity of .net .. we can repair the installation from Control panel-> repair/reinstall.

but winzip(rar) and .net (stock market graphs s/w) I really dont see how its connected.

Check for AV db if updated and all fine. Run Chkdsk (dismount volume) & Disk Defragment.

Hope this helps

Which process is shown as using 100% cpu usage? Check that with Task Manager or better with Process Explorer as it will also let you check the threads stack.

I have checked it..its in javaw which is used by the stock market software.
As soon as I close the graphs, the usage comes down to 3-4% although the remainder of the program which shows the rates keeps running

I have run Advanced system care which takes care of chkdsk etc.
I have no idea about AV db.
Can you please elaborate a bit more ?

You could also have downloaded one of those free softwares and installed it while installing winzip. I would suggest you check your programs in control panel and see if there are some tool bars, search engines etc.

Try updating your java version , recently there were quite a few security patches released for java.
I think I have updated Java to the latest version

I have Version 7 Update 9 (build 1.7.0_09-b05)

Nope..I am very particular to see that the toolbars like ask etc. which are bundled are not installed

I went through the list of installed programs and rechecked that no such programs are installed

I could not find the repair or reinstall option in the .net program in remove programs when I right click on it. Just the option to remove it.

If I uninstall the .net program and then re install it, will I have to re-install the programs which use it again or just the .net program ?

Also is it easy to uninstall the .net program totally just using the Win 7 uninstall utility or its a stubborn program which require GPU driver cleaner sort of effort ?

latest version of java is v7 update 17. uninstall java completely first then install the new version.
Java downloads. Install the 32bit version even if you have 64bit comp or browser, since the stock market program might be 32bit.

When I went to uninstall the Java, I find that I have 2 versions installed

Java 7 Update 9 64 bit 7.0.90 &
Java 7 Update 17 7.0.170

Will I still require to re install the Java?

Thanks for advising

uninstall the 64 bit version of java. most apps are coded for 32bit version. 64 bit version is not required unless you use 64bit version of the browser regularly or applications that make use of 64bit java. you dont need to reinstall the 32bit version.

I have to use the 64bit version of the browser to access some high security sites
So the 64 bit version has to be loaded.

Over the weekend can I uninstall the .net programs totally as well as my stock market software and reinstall them ?
I will also remove the c++ files and reinstall them, as I think my stock market program uses both java and c++ and I do not know Win zip has made changes in which program.

Is this step recommended for a newbie ?

AV db ( Antivirus database).

Did you happen to reinstall the .net? No!! I am sure you dont have to reinstall the Stock S/w package.

Try downloading .net from MS Site directly. Running the package will give the options of repair/reinstall

Downloaded from MS Site as suggested and ran the repair option

No change in status. The problem most probably persists

Any other ideas ?
I dont think .net was the culprit

I have also uninstalled the Main stock market software and installed it again.
I will be able to know the result tomorrow only for sure when the market opens and the graphs get fully populated

I don't think either WinZip, or .NET, is the culprit here. WinZip is not a program which will cause problems to the system. Anyways, why use WinZip, when there are excellent free zip software, like 7-zip available. WinZip is shareware, whereas 7-zip is a free software.

.NET is also not likely the issue here. And WinZip and .NET have no relation at all. Why would installation of WinZip affect .NET. Also, it's a common myth that installing .NET on the system makes it slow. Installing .NET only takes up more space on the hard disk, but does not slow down the system in any respect. It's just a framework for the programs to run in, which make use of .NET. It definitely does not slow down the system. It takes up a bit of space yes, but with modern drives of 500 GB or more, it shouldn't be a problem.

I think it's just a coincidence that the problem occurred with the installation of Winzip. As suggested by another user, look in the task manager to find out exactly which program is taking up the CPU, and causing it to shoot to 100%. Open task manager, and arrange the processes in descending order of CPU usage, and you will see the culprit program.

As told by a member earlier, the latest version of Java is JRE 7 update 17. So, uninstall the older versions. Try to keep Java updated, as it's a major security problem. Preferably uninstall all Java versions from the system, and then install the required version, 32-bit or 64-bit as per your requirement. Maybe having two versions of Java on your system is the reason behind the issue.

You can download JRE from here:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

Also, to completely get rid of Java(JRE) from your system, you can use JavaRa, which removes all traces of older versions.

Hi

I know which program is using the CPU 100%. It is Javaw
(My stockmarket software is Java based)
Even with the software running, without the graphs, the normal usage of javaw is 4-5%
However, it shoots up to 100%, the moment I open the heavy graphs in my stock market software and hangs the program, till such time I close the graphs.
As soon as I close the graphs, the javaw CPU usage drops down to 4-5% again and the program starts displaying the rates.

I was able to open those graphs without any problem in this very desktop, with the same hardware without any problem till last week
In fact I can open the same graphs on my laptop in the same program, which is of much inferior specs without any problem.

I think I will wait till today evening to see the outcome of my yesterdays endeavors and then try to take the steps recommended by @CapriAnupam

Thanks for advising[DOUBLEPOST=1363757139][/DOUBLEPOST]Hi

I am unable to open the Graphs

The problem persists.

Will try to uninstall the 64 bit Java and see the outcome today evening

well it seems like a memory leak in your stock market program. uninstall it first before uninstalling java latest versions. then after you have installed latest java version, install the stock market software (preferably the most recent version which worked well on your system).

Well, its obvious that the stock market program is the culprit program here. It's merely a coincidence that the problem started to happen when you installed WinZip.

My advice would be to first uninstall all JRE versions from your computer. Cleanup with JavaRa after that.
Then, as 6pack says, uninstall the stock market program too. Then install the latest version of JRE, and then install the stock market program.

I see that you want to go with 64-bit JRE. If you do, check how the program behaves with it. If it gives trouble again, you should give a try to 32-bit JRE then.

All attempts failed

Now I have got a mail from my stock market service provider.
They have screwed up their program, which is causing this issue in computers running win7 64 Bit
They have given a temporary solution till such time that they find a permanent solution for the same

Thanks everybody for helping me out
