Hello reader,

My PC had Windows XP when it came about 3 years ago. After 1 year I installed Windows 7 on it. Now due to some project work I want to install Windows XP again. But after loading drivers it is giving an SCSI driver error and reboots the system. The error is still coming when I tried to install it on another partition. Please suggest me some solution. Even my friend obsessed with me that why I am keep coming to his house for Windows XP for project. :D

Thank You for your attention towards my thread...

@Prophet, check the sata settings under BIOS, it might be changed to AHCI which is not supported under windows XP, so the error. If yes change it to IDE

XP installer contains drivers in it already, however, some SATA drives have a problem wherein, their drivers are not present in XP. So, while installing XP on them, you need to keep the drivers in a floppy. Try it with a latest version of XP with all updates slipstreamed. (Don't ask me where to get it ;) ). The XP installer checks for it, copies the installation files on to the HDD using the drivers from the floppy and then installation proceeds.

The new drivers are added in the newer installs. If you're technically inclined, you can get them and slipstream them into your installer, so no floppy is needed.

Just delete that partition(C: which contain Win7) and then make new one with that unallocated space.

Then you can install XP easily.....

I am planning to install Windows XP in my machine which already has windows 7 installed on C:. Assume that i have a bootable ISO and i will be copying the files to a USB to make a bootable USB to install windows XP. Can anyone let me know the steps for this ? I want that after installation, it should allow me to do a dual boot (anything special need to be done for this ?? ).

here are the steps:
# download YUMI - multiboot usb creator
# create a windows xp bootable usb drive using YUMI and a Bootable Win XP image
# Install XP on your system using the usb drive
# reboot the system, you will directly boot in win xp
# BOOT from the Win 7 DVD and select repair - the setup will automatically detect the problem and will try to solve the problem, and your system will restart
If still now you don't get the OS selection menu, then boot again from the win 7 DVD and select Startup repair, now it will get repaired and upon next reboot you will receive the OS selection menu

How to install Windows XP over Windows 7 in a dual boot ?

I followed the same method.

One more query, i will be using a windows 7 bootable USB to install the OS, so it will be same as booting from DVD right ? Also how will i get the startup repair, is it like when it boots after win7 bootable USB (assuming win xp has already been installed), it will give me option to REPAIR my OS ?? This is where is select the startup repair ?

^ yes booting from dvd and bootable usb is same
