well the problem here is that i want to connect my laptop to my desktop and have internet access through that.

Current configuration :
PC : 2 lan cards
Via Lan card ( connected to router (internet) ) :
ip address : 192.168.0.1
subnet : 255.255.255.0
Realtek Lan card ( connected to laptop ) :
ip address : 172.16.1.1
subnet : 255.255.255.0

Router ( airtel bb connection ) :

Desktop Airtel PPoE connection through which i connect to internet.

Laptop ( connected to Realtek Lan card ):
ip address : 172.16.1.2
subnet : 255.255.255.0

Im able to ping laptop and computer , i can share files between lappy and PC by setting up a FTP server on Realtek lan card but not through windows file sharing.

btw i can access internet on PC while communicating with laptop ( sharing files ).

Now what i want is to be able to access Internet on laptop, so if there is any configuration that i have to do or use a software then plz suggest that.
(plz dont suggest me to buy a wireless router , i know it would ease all this mess but i dont have the green mollah for it now , after buyin a laptop :P )
Any sorta help would be appreciated :hap2:

i can share files between lappy and PC by setting up a FTP server on Realtek lan card but not through windows file sharing.

you should have been able to run a direct file sharing without needing a FTPserver

can you change the Realtek LAN card to 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 and laptop LAN card to 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0

For internet access, right click on your internet network connection>properties>Enable Internet Connection sharing and choose the Realtek NIC as the interface to share the connection with

also don't forget to set the gateway address and DNS server IP on the laptop NIC

also, since routers prices aren't really high (sub 2K) , a router would make the maxm sense instead of this mess..jsut set your modem to auto-dial the connection ...connect it to the router and leave them both always on....

that way, you do not have any dependency on the desktop to ue the net on the lappy (and no wires running to the laptop either)

^ k gonna check this now and report back , sir :)

i know its cheap 1,850 k but dad wouldnt like it too much ( specially after spending 44k on laptop :P )

d-uh,,,that would have been a better buy than a 2 GB upgrade ;)

maybe if i buy your RAM, you can pick the router :P

hey, you don't need a proxy server to share the net or a FTP server to share files

Anyway, don't fix what ain't broken ...but what you have done is a relatively round-about method

Ya i know , its all messed up :(
but hey atleast its working :D , gonna convince dad to buy a router ( going to spread the lancables all around the room hehe.. that might help )
