Hi,

I have an external HDD, suddenly from past few days cant access it.

I tried checking it with Diskchks the process get stuck within 5 mins. Also tried various data recovery programs they also are hanging up the entire system.

dont wanna go for RMA becoz atleast 320GB of data would be lost.

So if anyone faced similar issue and knows how to get data out of it and then post that i can check for may be formatting it and may be all get sorted.

I have already tried NTFS recover, Recover my files, Phoenix Stellar etc

Not so sure, but whenever i face HDD issues i use chkdsk /r option to get a detailed report. It takes lot of time to complete depending on the size (2 hr may be for 300gb)

Rest guru's will guide you better.

i got to dos and chkdsk /r and it just gets stuck strangely just doesnt moves ahead... around 1-2 gb post that it just doesnt move

I guess low level format will get ur drive working.

But what about ur data?

try some hi-end professional data recovery SW.

even if u can't detect ur HDD,I think then nothing left to do.

next time onwards make regular backups.

@Tech

yeah i meant low level format would make my disk most probably all rite

but then data was my issue

so was asking if by experience which has been most helpful n most apt software people have used out here??

you can try this. Keep the HDD in the fridge and then try transferring the data. The idea is to keep the HDD cool. While the data is transferred. One more thing when keeping the HDD try to seal it in a poly bag or some thing so that no moisture gets on the HDD.

I am not joking here.

I have faced same problem with 320gb (2.5), after trying with various tools unable to detect in windows.

Last I downloaded seagate tools for windows,

Long Generic test made ok and saved me.

Luckily my 200gb data saved.
