hi guys i just got myself a new ASUS 5870

now today i re-installed my windows and everything was working fiine @ stock for like 15-20 or maybe 25 min of COH at highest setting and 4AA

it gave me i think greene lines horizontal ones

iam not too sure about the colour but the lines were there and computer froze and had to reset

is it driver thing or maybe cards problem?

using 9.12 and dling 9.12 hotfix as i type

Also happening at stock speeds also and also now when i play L4D2 the game automatically crashes in 5 min and then the speakers give very loud disturbing noise

also today when playing COH my mouse pointers went pretty bad as in i could see 3 pointers and whenever i put my pointer on any text the area would go black and pretty bad image type(cant explain)

i just installed the hotfix and still the same

some1 has told me to disable the ATI high defination audio in sound and then test it so testing and reporting

my current drivers are 9.12 hotfix

I hope you know how to flash the bios using ATIFLASH.

( its simple, download atiflash from techpowerup, create bootable DOS pen drive/ CD and put the atiflash folder having bios file on the bootable drive, boot using this bootable DOS drive / cd and use this command : "atiflash -f -p 0 biosfilename.bin"

without " ")

Flash this updated bios : techPowerUp! :: VGA Bios Collection: ATI HD 5870 1024 MB

This one was officially released by ATI and has slightly bumped up voltage.

The voltage was too low in original bios for some cards to work properly.

Dude, this is not some bios stripped out from some other card. Backup your bios using GPUZ in case you need it in the future. There is no chance of bricking your card by flashing the bios.

This has many more fixes than just voltage tweak. This also solves issues with displayport output ( you might need this in future as well ).

Even in case of failed bios flash, you can flash the card again blindly or by using any other backup card. But chances of bios flash failure are very very thin.

@OP:

The BIOS flash seems to resolve the issue. You could try it, is quite safe, since its the official ATI BIOS. Not a hack of something. Else you can try to create a high 2D profile. This * might help you. If you read that whole thread, it seems, not like a driver issue. If you do not want to BIOS flash, and 2D profile creation does not work, RMA the accelerator.

ok guys an update

i played COH for like an hour or so without much problem but when i played 4-5 times the screen glitched as in the screen sort of blinked for a sec like squeezed for a sec and then went fine this happened 4-5 times

and then i was watching some AVI file in media player and while it running the screen went blank 10 times

it went sometimes greene, yellow, grey and then blank and on 10th time it said the ATI drivers have been restored

can some1 help me and let me know what should i do also updating the bios will help coz some1 told me that it is coz of low voltage on the card is it true?

also guys iam running at stock settings and fan at 46 and temps are below 60

please help me out

Flash the Card Buddy !!

or then get msi afterburner software and bump up the core volts to 1.174 odd.. that might solve your problem.

The card comes with default core voltage of only 1.162 which might not be enough.

The bios flash will also set the core volts to 1.174 also.

Also try under clocking the ram and gpu by about 50 Mhz each and see if this happens.

If the voltage is low then under clocking might just help you out.

Also you might want to try and create a profile in which your Core and Mem only drop down to about 400 mhz on the core and 1000 mhz for the ram.

The cards usually drop down to 157 on the core and 300 on th ram and this is at times too low !

try all these things and report back bro !

hope this helps...

^^ tried all this and still the same problem

played the game and now ingame also there is a problem

bumped the voltage and reduced the core and memory and still this

what else can i try

Keep MSI afterburner running in background logging the temps and voltages and see if the voltage is actually increasing ( and staying there when under load ).

Anyway try this. I am putting it down step by step so it could be of use to others as well who have no clue what I am talking :P

Step 1.

Open CCC, Go to Graphics > overdrive option and unlock the overdrive.

Step 2.

Click on option as show above, select Profiles > Profile Manager.

You will get the window as shown above, type in some Profile name ( I selected "new")

Make sure ATI Overdrive box is checked as shown above.

Create the desktop shortcut for this by clicking on desktop shortcut option under Activation tab in profile manager as shown below.

and then hit SAVE.

Exit the CCC

Step 3.

Make sure you have enabled "Show hidden files and folders" in the Folder and search option.

Navigate to C:\Users\Shripad\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles

SHRIPAD by your username.

Here you will see a xml file as show in the pic.

Right click it and open with notepad.

Now you have to make changes to the values I have marked above.

It should look like you see in the picture below.

Now save and close this file.

Step 4.

3304b4abfa9a1758.jpg

Open CCC, go to profiles manager, select your new profile and activate it by clicking activate.

Now play your games and see if the problem goes away.

If it does solve your problem, you can put this profile on each windows startup by dragging the desktop shortcut to Windows > all programs > startup

in windows taskbar.

No, this is software modification and hence it wont affect your warranty.

Even flashing bios wont void your warranty.

The steps above basically manage the idle, low 3d and 3d clocks as well as minor bump in voltages without bios flash.

This problem seems to ease up by changing idle clock speeds little higher and bumping the voltages. Thats why give it a try.

For permanent solution, I would still suggest you flash your bios. But give this a try.

Few cards are affected more than others.

Thankfully I got the one from initial batches which didnt have this problem.

I suggest you write an email to Asus before flashing your card....

True as Funky said flashing may not void warranty, but its better to be sure, if flashing is the official solution the tech support will mention it...
