Problem with port forwarding!!!

Well, my rig is (almost) setup. So I thought I'll start torrent again, and get some more games and stuff. Turns out my port forwarding is not working. :(

I have mtnl triband. I checked the router config, and saw that the rules I'd applied earlier, were still present! :D So what is the problem? :S

Then I tried to configure NV firewall. Was damn confusing, so I uninstalled it :ohyeah: Still no luck :S

What do I do now? :huh:

did you trying to forward your ports again??

it might be pa prob with the router..

here`s how to forward if you forgotten :bleh

1. Login to the router/modem using Internet Explorer. You will have a problem storing the settings if you use any other browser.

2. Setup --> DHCP Configuration

3. In the Server On Start IP box enter 192.168.1.10. Let the End IP remain whatever it is. Click Apply.

4. Click Start --> Run --> Type cmd (or command if Win 9x/ME) --> In the command prompt enter "ipconfig /all" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Copy all that info to Notepad.

5. Goto Start --> Control Panel (Classic Mode) --> Network Connections --> Right Click on your LAN card --> Properties --> Click Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) --> Click Properties.

6. In the box Select "Use the following IP address" and "Use the following DNS server address".

7. In the IP address box enter 192.168.1.6 (you can use from 2-9 in the last octet) as your IP address. Enter the Subnet mask as you saw in command prompt earlier and similarly fill up the other values.

Thats it you're done, now follow the normal steps to forward your ports, wherever it says to enter IP enter "192.168.1.6" as your IP address and not the Live IP.

1. Login to the router/modem using Internet Explorer.

2. Advanced --> Virtual Server.

3. Giva a name to the rule in the rule box, enter private IP, enter protocol TCP/UDP/Both, then enter the ports you want forwarded in port start and port end accordingly, in the port map add a port through which you want all your traffic mapped, generally within the range. Click Apply.

4. Tools --> System --> Save and Reboot.

5. When its rebooted, goto Advanced --> Filters. Select Inbound Filters.

6. In Source IP, select Any IP from dropdown box. In destination IP select Single IP from Dropdown box, and enter your IP there.

7. In Source port, depending on whether you need a range or a single port, select relevant then enter the port(s) into the field. Do the same for the Destination port(s).

8. In Protocol select what you entered in the Virtual Server Rule, TCP/UDP/Both accordingly.

9. Set Action to Allow. Click Apply. When the rule appears click the Enable checkbox.

10. Goto, Tools --> System --> Save & Reboot.

11. Restart your machine, you should have forwarded ports now.

Hello, I'm back, with the same problem :ohyeah: Actually, it never got solved, but, due to other problems with my PC, this got ignored.

Now I've tried done everything Chic_Magnet said in the post above. Still no luck. What do I do now?

have you checked whether windows firewall allows your port to be open/forwarded to other machines? or your firewall software?

also check if ur torrent software is having compatibility problems with the NV firewall.

Router is the dsl 502t I got from mtnl. And port forwarding was working earlier. It stopped after I shifted to my new PC :( Now its not working on my old PC either.

I don't think windows firewall is the problem. Cause emule opens the port in win firewall. I haven't installed any other firewall.

reset your router man..happened with me too once..

use a straightened safetly pin to reset your router . it will clear up al the settings and you gotta forward ports again .. but this time it would work.. definately..

Well, if the port forwarding has been done correctly and you're absolutely sure there's no firewalls on the PC, you've got two steps remaining. Hard-reset the router and reconfigure it from scratch, or upgrade/reflash the firmware and then reset and reconfigure it. I'd go for the firmware upgrade. Routers can be so finicky sometimes!! :D Check this page to see if the firmware there is newer than what your router is running. http://www.dlink.com.au/tech/drivers/files/routers/dsl502t.htm

Wokay guys, tried flashing the firware, and my router conked off :crazy: So was without net on a weekend :O Good thing I'd borrowed a PG Wodehouse Jeeves Omnibus from a friend :D
Luckily, the mtnl exchange is right next door. So, my mom went today to make a complain, and they came immediately, and got the router replaced. :hap2: Best service I've seen anywhere :ohyeah:

So, I'll tackle port forwarding again. Wish me luck :D

Wirelessly? :huh: :huh:

Well, once I got home, I first went to the mtnl status page. Then I found out they had reset my password :S So, I clicked on forgot password, and got a message saying my password has been sent to my alternate email id. So far so good.
Then, I went thru all the steps chic_magnet has mentioned, and when I hit " Save and Reboot", my net stopped working. :bleh:
So, I tried resetting the router, and then realised I'll now need to enter the password again, which of course I didnt know :bleh: So, I called up a friend and asked him to check my mail. But, as you can guess, there was no mail from mtnl :rofl:

I'll try calling up their call center and get the password. Wish me luck :D
Edit: Stop Press!!! News flash - The idiots managed to sent the mail to my bulk folder :bleh: Hmmm, now I'll have to wait till evening to see if it works.
