Hello Guys,

I purchased a game GRID on STEAM during the pre Christmas offer... Got it at very cheap rate . Around some Rs 380/-

Its around 11 GB download. Well that is not the problem.

For ur information i m on a 2 Mbps BSNL 500 Plan. Night 2 to 8 Unlimited.
My problem is that i get a very less download speed with STEAM.
It doesn't go above 40KBps...

Now i tried a thing. I opened Utorrent and started uploading.. Stopped all other downloads since i wanted the game to download quickly. Amazingly the download speed increased to around 70 - 80KBps on STEAM.

I have tried changing the servers and also tried setting different Internet speeds in the Steam - Options in the GUI. But nothing happens.

If i don't start UTorrent in the background along with Steam, it keeps downloading at 30 - 40 KBps. I Dont understand whats the problem.
M downloading it from so many days now and m really frustrated.

Dont say my connection is faulty as i get above 170 KBps consistent speeds on Torrents...

PS : I have posted this in the Internet section as its a problem related to net speed. If the mods think that it should be in the Gaming section then please move it there.

Thanks :)

Strange. Have you set your region to "India" in your Steam settings? (File > Settings > Downloads)

Also if you're behind a router, you might try forwarding the ports steam uses. UDP 27000 to 27015, UDP 27015 to 27030 and TCP 27014 to 27050 (the last TCP range is for Steam downloads IIRC)

Happened with me too. Seems like some bug. Though my case the suspected reason was Intel speedstep. At lower clocks maybe steam's download speed reduced. So i turned off speedstep and my download speed became normal.

Though steam's download speed display is still buggy, its NOT the actual speed.

Ya.. I've tried that. I've tried various regions... but the speed remains the same... 30 -40 KBps

How do we go about this ?

I've been downloading this 11Gb from the past 3 weeks and its just 60 % complete. :(
On torrents i can download 2 - 3 GB per day easily during Night 2 -8.

Nothing worked... Tried all methods.... Tried all regions possible...... Even forwarded my ports as Powersurge suggested above.... Nothing worked....

Finally after a month later it got downloaded completely.... Phewww....

Speeds kept ranging from 30 - 50 KBps... Not more than that :(

Well dnt rely on ur steam dwnld speed bcoz the servers of steam are always down.i m a counter strike 1.6 steam player.so we ve a server in steam.but half of the days the game lags, chokes a lot.fedup of steam,i bought it @ 450/- now i feel dat it was better in non steam.well so dnt wry abt steam dwnld speed its a bit buggy.
