Graphic Cards Problem with temperature reading on X1800XT??

Guys I tried some more gaming yesterday on the X1800XT in particular (1900's all packed up :P waitin for the C2D). Now the temperature climbed to 62 degrees, but doesn't rise after that.. 63~64 is the max I've seen.
I played WH 40K DOW, a little of NFS MW and also tried doing some defragmenting on the RAID array in the background (dunno what I hoped to achieve :ashamed: doing that)....

Temp doesn't cross 64 max.... is it reading wrong??? Card doesn't feel hot (heatsink strip gets freaking hot, but so do other ATI's) while the air coming out the back is quite warm. The 7900GTX reports around 64 max as well (65 in fact) but its HS and pipes stay cool... Is there anything wrong?

Absolute rock stability no issues whatsoever. The x1900 had reached a max of 70 degrees (i'm without a/c here)...

Are the figures on the x1800 correct?

How are you measuring and reading the temps ??

Are you minimising the game and seeing the temp ?? If so, then it is wrong.

Run RTHDRIBL and keep it running and see the temps side by side...

abe assume that's what I'm doing, how much would it drop (not more than 5 degrees I'll bet...) using ATI's temp monitor only...
btw the cooler ain't as hot as the x1900's in our lab, so I do know it isn't dangerously hot....just wanted to know if the temp could be say 8-10 degrees more...

Also with such temps would it be advisable to use AS5? could I screw up and cause temps to increase or something? No skanky replies pls ;) honest query..

If you minimize the window and try, you'll end up seeing temps to the tune of 15 degree less than peak. Use another monitor to display the temps while you are gaming... My XTX shows upto 90 using this technique. If I quit/minimize the game and check, it never shows more than 75-80.

No..... it dips instantly.....

If you cant use a second monitor, what you can do is to run Rivatuner's log to record the past few mins and game normally.... then when you minimise it, you will see the graph... move your mouse over the graph and you will see the different temps...

And no damage yet?? So the temps can go up to 90 degrees... or lets say even 80? That's is good. OK I did this...

Temp around 70 degrees, dual monitors... So that means I'm fine right??
Funny X1900XT is reporting more....78 degrees max (x1800 shows 73 max)

95-100 is pretty common on XTX cards. Infact the fan won't spin upto 100% unless it hits 105. These chips can take that kinda temperature. I wonder how funky is checking...

Thanks Chaos... :) that's a relief. Whats the max temps on an x1800 and a 7900gtx btw? I mean the max one's after which damage can occur?

anything above 100c and we are talking about some damage, not just to the core but to the surrouding components as well as when the core heats up so does the HSF and well RAM heats up too :P

^^The core can take upto 130 before permanent damage according to ati. Read it at rage3d/driverheaven or something. But the ram might get screwed b4 the core though :P.

No real need for me to reply but thanks rave and chaos. I'm safe and happy :ohyeah: none of my cards are getting anywhere close to even 85 yet. I've just touched 80 last night, and was playing a bit of warhammer 40K and later FEAR.

storm thanks...
