I have an intex 600va UPS about 5 years old and have changed battery twice now. A month ago it wasnt working properly so when i checked i saw that the plug had burned. UPS plug was inserted in a spike buster and that socket too was melted plus the plug of spike buster was also burned.

Then i changed the spike as well as the plug of the UPS. Worked fine till yester. Suddenly no power was coming into UPS and when i checked the UPS plug again burned and melted and the new spike socket also has melted but spike's plug is proper.

What could be the problem? Is it a faulty UPS or faulty spike or fault with switch board. i will try replacing the plug once more. If its a faulty UPS please suggest if its worth repairing and if not please suggest a good UPS around 1.5k.

Thanks in advance.

well cant be sure. plugs burn when they are overloaded constantly. both plug + socket getting burned = very high load from ups.
what are you running off your ups? A 600VA ups can handle only around 300W load in total.

just changed the plug.. UPS is powering my pc with a basic config
amd phenom x2 555 3.2ghz
asus M2N68-AM Plus mobo
2gb ddr2 ram
500gb hdd
xfx radeon 6450 1gb ddr3 graphics card
1 extra fan
no dvd drive connected

From the UPS pc. 17" LCD and speakers are connected

Buying a new UPS is the best option. For heaven's sake don't go for Intex. But if you really want to give it a try...apart from checking the load outside, please check the Spike Components inside the UPS(usually blue in color). They might be partly short circuited and drawing more current.

@Samkong how can i check the load and are there any pics available that i can refer to for Spike Components.

As i mentioned earlier i got this UPS around 5 yrs ago when i dint know much about computers and related stuff.

Just pry open a spike buster, you'll see some disk type components with two legs, usually blue in colour. The same type of components will be there inside the UPS where ac is connected.
