Here's a little background to my problem;
About 6 months ago I bought a HP Pavilion 9600 CTO Notebook with 3GB of RAM , 2 HDDs of 150 GB and a Geforce 8600 GS Graphics card.
It had come pre-installed with Vista. I decided to restore my laptop a few days later and the recovery partition didn't work at all. Therefore , I decided to keep things simple and installed XP instead. Now , it worked well for a while , but I decided to change my version of XP. My computer had also been infected by the Sujin, Rontokbro some rootkit viruses and the newfolder.exe trojans. I had decided to format the entire hard disk and install a fresh copy of XP after removing these viruses. Also , one of my hard disks is ruined. Infact , whenever I boot the computer , it shows a system message telling me to replace my hard disk.
Now the apparent problem with the GRAPHICS CARD is quite complicated. Whenever I used to switch on a game like Counter Strike , It used to work for one session. Whenever I restarted the game in the same session , my laptop would freeze. On cutting power supply and restarting , my screen USED TO TURN UP BLANK !! I could boot into windows, but my screen wouldnt have any display on it! It would , however reappear on system restart. !! Occasionally , I've got a blue screen error with something to do woth my graphics driver ( nv*****.dll )
I've tried everything I could... from installing different versions of the drivers, adjusting the settings, etc...
Is it something to do with hardware or software ?? I'm so confused. :huh:
