Problem writing DVD DL, low disk space

My attempt to copy a DL DVD (The Sound of Music) failed. Then when I tried to create an image, it is found that the problem was low disk space. I have total of 10 GB in C and only > 7.5 GB is free. Is there any way out, other than repartitioning? Or can I resize C without need for re installation of Windows (XP)?

Writing again failed in the end. The disk plays well in the PC, but not recognized by player. Report says-

#31 Phase 38 File digbrnst cpp, Line 1762
Burn process failed at 4X (5540KB/s)
#32 Text 00 File SCSIPTIC Commands.cpp, Line 261
STPIDismountVolume-completed successfully for FSCTL_DISMOUNT_VOLUME
#33 Text 0 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 11185
DriveLocker:UnlockVolume completed
#34 Text 0 File SCSIPTICommands.cpp, Line424
UnLockMCN - completed successfully for IOCTL_STORAGE_MCN_CONTROL

LOOKS like a issue with the disc or u have very little hdd space

Disk is Mitsubishi DL Made in Singapore and disk image (the second time) was in my G drive with nearly 200GB free space. Writer is SH 203B with Nero 7 OEM that came along with it. So far the writer never showed any issue and this is the first time I am trying a DL.
