Graphic Cards Problems with 5850 - Games quitting to desktop

Hi

I'm having a strange problem with my new system ever since i purchased it.
Full config is in my siggy.
The main prob :
After i assembled the system, did a fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate x64 (genuine copy), installed catalyst 10.1.
Ran 3DMark 06, it coompleted successfully, Oc'd the system (proccy & gpu both), ran 3DMark 06, it completed successfully,Cinebench too completed successfully.
Ran Dark Void, it ran for some time and exited to the desktop, ran Saw it didnt even come to the menu page.Saboteur too exited after few mins of game play.Only Dirt 2 & Darkest Of Days (Patched to vv1.05) ran without any issues.
Installed AVP and it too exited after displaying cut scene.
Unistalled 10.1 & installed 10.2. Prob not resolved.

Did a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate x64, prob still there with catalyst 10.2
Did a clean install of Windows Sever 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition x64 (Geniune copy).Same probs with catalyst 10.2
Installed Catalyst 9.12, same issues (on system boot says CCC is not compatible with GPU installed),uninstalled it and installed 10.3 (still says CCC is not compatible with GPU installed).
But now Saboteur is running but its stuttering and there are rendering issues.

This sud not be a issue with power supply (CM Silent Pro M 850W), tried with no oc still same prob.

Cant seen to figure out what the actual prob is.
Plz help me.

Thnx & Regards,
HellGate

First uninstall video driver completely.Use this Guru3D - Driver Sweeper .Then install the latest available version.See if this solves the issue. Also check the temperatures, use speedfan. This could be because of overheating.

The problem is most likely because of overclock.Run prime 95 for 7 hours atleast for stressing CPU and run memtest86+ for 7-8 hours minimum to test memory.

Hellgate:

Remove all the OC from the system. Reseat the accelerator. And Pavasedge mentioned, uninstall the prior CCC, and put on 9.12

Have you tried putting everything to stock, that is removing all overclock ?

Did you run prime95 and memtest86+ for 7 hours minimum? You mentioned only 3d mark and cinebench in your first post.

Did you check the temeperatures? If yes post them here.

^^^^ ran system (whole) @ stock.same issue.
Temps for proccy : 38C @ idle (4.2GHz), 58C (full load @ 4.2GHz)
35C (idle @ stock), 46C (full load @ stock)
GPU -> 43C (idle @ stock), 62C (full load @ stock) (fan 21%)
43C (idle @ 775MHz) 70C (full load @ 775MHz) (fan 75%)
Installed the card in the 2nd pci-e slot.
Same issue.
Ran prime @ 4.2GHz for 6hrs (no issues)
Never had such issues with any nvidia card (GTX275, 9800GT SLi,8800GTS 320MB etc)

First. Till your issue is resolved, do all diagnostics/suggestions from TE/your own RnD with the OC OFF.

Please could you post a screen shot of the error, 'this GPU is not compatible". Or what ever it was..?

@ hell gate can to test the card at your friend rig with different psu or any psu if working stable :|

or try the card at different pci-express slot on last or top of if it has 2 or 3 pxi-express slot

i hope if will work it :)

a same problem was occured with my ati 3870 os edition, you may try the following.

1.update all the bios and firmware for your device. (i.e. for motherboard, dvd rw, graphic card etc.)
2. check the SMPS, try a higher one.
3. install the latest version of dot net framework.

it should solve your problem.

^^^ i have already posted that i've tried the card on the 2nd pci-e slot, still same error.
psu should not be the cause as its a 850W psu (CM Silent Pro M, has 66A on the +12v rail).
Will try with a 32bit OS today.
already all latest drives for mob, chipset etc are installed.
Trying it at a friends place is not possible as i dont know any1 in Noida who has a PC (all my frnds here have laptops :( )

^ hmm so have to update all the latest hotfix drvier for windows 7 using auto update

also intel chipest p55 latest update driver and bios for msi p55 board

did u tweak the pci-express bandwidth to 105 or stock

btw the os is not the problem for test different version is all stable

also remove one hard disk 320 gb if os is there or if it is in at 500 gb then test it and check wheltever if the 12v rating are stable for gpu card or motherboard too :)

Hey if this helps.. i had a similar problem with my X800GTO a while ago and could not figure out what the heck was wrong, sometimes the system used to restart when running a 3D app. ..turned out the PSU was defective and could not handle the load. Ended up destroying my GPU, RAM ..

Run your system with LinX linpack interface. Select All ram and do atleast 5 runs.

I have a feeling your RAM might be an issue here.

If thats ok, install 10.3 preview driver set.

Dont bother with driver cleaner on windows 7. That piece of software is over rated and actually causes more harm than good in many cases on win7.

Just proper uninstall with ati uninstaller will do.

If you are overclocking, even if your CPU is prime stable, you will need to bump up the core and vtt voltages by 1/2 notches. This seems to help those who are experiencing crashes.

Most importantly, Saboteur runs badly on ATI cards, thats the fact. The game is soo badly coded that it had issues with anything other than NV hardware from Day 1.

Run furmark for good 30 mins (stability test) and monitor GPU temps and see if it crashes or shows artifacts.

Do this and report back.

I too think that its a RAM problem. I have had games quit on me like that when one of my RAM sticks went defective. Also check if you are giving enough voltage to the RAM for it to run at its rated speed.

did not know bout the Saboteur issue.
Thnx for that info.
Had run furmark the day i oc'd the card (to 775MHz 7 the temps i posted was after running Furmark for bout 50 mins), did not get any artifacts.

As far as the issue is concerned, used an MS internal tool and found out that its the Intel Chipset INF drivers that are causing the prob.
Yesterday clean installed both Win 7 (x86 & x64), installed only Catalyst 10.2 and did not install any other drivers (from Intel).
and the game ran.............with very high settings & Tessallation on.
The only prob now, if i switch on the Torch (T) in the game, the game crashes.
I will do some further testing today.
Seems like I'll will have to get rid of this ATi card asap.

Hellgate:
I think I have mentioned this two times all ready. And am sure, most would agree. Please, please, please keep your system at stock settings. Including the accelerator. Also I think you have installed your OS like 3-4 times. Believe me, that is not the solution to problems. It should be the last step..when all else fails, and even when God gives up hope, should a new installation be done. I have never had to do a new installation unless I was upgrading to a different OS.

The way you are troubleshooting your problem is too haphazard, so you are not seeing any results. You have a great card/system, and hiccups like this occur. I can bet you, that you can keep doing new OS installations, and the problem will not go away..!

Start with this:

1. Bring everything to stock. If you are tempted to OC, remove the OEM HSF, and put on the stock cooler. What more can I say here. Even if your memories are at lower speeds, then what you purchased them for...leave it for now. Just change the voltage settings to optimized.
2. Update the Board BIOS to latest.
3. Go to the MSI website, download the latest chipset drivers for you board. This is the first thing you should have done. How can you be running a system without chip set drivers. Its absolute mandate.
4. Work with CCC 9.12. Only. 10.2 was buggy, and 10.3 is Beta. 9.12 has proven to be stable.
5. Run the memory tests as Shripad sir has mentioned in post#14. LinX is good. Do the full RUN.
6. Run Furmark. Let it run 30-45 minutes. NO games till now. Be patient.
7. Post back.
