A friend just got a gigabyte 6200 tc (pci-e). he installed it, and he sent me the following email with his problem.

The card is not detected, even at startup. i.e. even
the bios is not detected. (u know, the top left corner of the screen
DOESN'T say something like nVIDIA GeForce 6200 128MB
pciexpress
bios version xx.yy.zz.aa

He tried laoding the drivers but freezes as soon as he tries to. Ill try and find out his config as soon as possible. All i know is he was using a xfx geforce fx 5300 PCIe before this.

well not all cards show that display message before the bios screen comes up. Some do and some dont. It depends on how manufacturer designed the bios. My 7800GT wont show any such message on boot.

As far as freezing during installation problem is concerned. Tell him to fir clean all old drivers using driver cleaner pro.

Then tell him to update the bios of motherboard to latest official one available for that motherboard and then install latest Forceware 81.85 WHQL.

By the way whats his system config and motherboard/chipset drivers he is using. If its NF4 series then there was a problem with GF6 series of cards and 6.5x series of nf4 drivers. In that case he need to remove those drivers and install NF4 6.66 WHQL chipset drivers.

I have a p4 3.0Ghz on

an Intel 915GAV mobo. 512MB ddrsdram, 80 gig Sata HDD. No NForce on my

mobo. I use an XFX GeForce FX 5300 128MB PCIe.

I'll definitely try out whatever you told me about the card. By the

way, did u mention on the forum that i see a series of '$' on the

screen at bootup with the 6200? Also, while going into safe mode, the

edges of the screen are all filled with the $ sign in varying amounts.

Do let me know what that guy has to say about it.

Sounds like corruption. SOmething wrong with the card perhaps?
