Hey guys

I have a wierd problem with my 1 week old Dlink modem. All the correct lights on the router are lit up. Inside the router it shows me its connected and obtained a WAN IP address from my ISP (MTNL) and the system logs verify the same but I cannot browse or use the internet. Its not a DNS issue either.

I have tried a differant router and that works so I am sure the problem is with the Dlink.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Have you tried a firmware upgrade?? If you have, make sure you reset it by holding down the reset button for at least 40-50 seconds and then reconfigure it.

Havent tried a firmware upgrade. Didnt even know there was a firmware available. Nothing on Dlink site. Already tried resetting it.

I was thinking about trying to put it in a bridge mode and use my Linksys WRT54G to connect. Any ideas how to do that?

If that doesnt work its RMA I guess.

Haven't used this particular model, but from what screenshots I saw on portforward.com, you'd probably find the settings under the WAN tab. After changing it to Bridge mode with the appropriate VCI/VPI settings, make sure you go to the Admin tab > Commit & Reboot sub-tab and click Commit and Reboot. Otherwise your settings won't get saved.

On the WRT54G, you'll need to set the internet connection type as PPPoE and put in your MTNL username and password. Lemme know if you need more help with the WRT54G.

Dlink router has a setting Setup-->Lan Configuration -->Lan Group 1

Make sure Ethernet / USB / Bridge(If you are using it) is added to the LAN Group 1 ...

also this Lan Group 1 has to be selected while making A connection Bridge or otherwise...

Else your modem will connect but you will not be able to browse the internet..

Try ping the modem (192.168.1.1) IP You get from network...

DNS Servers and also some sites like Google

try getting netstat too... it might point in right direction where the problem might be...
