Beginner
HEY GUYS, NEED ADVICE REGARDING PROCCY UPGRADE FOR MY EXISTING MOBO.

I HAVE HP PAVILION a1515in PURCHASED IN 2007 WITH FOLL SPECS.

Base processor : Pentium4 524 (P) HT 3.06 GHz
•533 MHz front side bus
•Socket 775

Chipset : ATI Radeon Xpress 200 for Intel Processors

Motherboard : •Manufacturer: ECS
•Motherboard Name: RC410-M
•HP/Compaq motherboard name: Asterope2-GL8E

GPU : Integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 200

Memory : 2 x 512 mb ddr2 sdram
Maximum allowed 2 GB (2 x 1 GB)
Speed supported PC2-4200 MB/sec
Type 240 pin, DDR2 SDRAM

SMPS : 250 W PSU FROM HP

SO THE PROBLEM IS GUYS I AM INTENDING TO UPGRADE MY SYS WITH DEDICATED GPU, THINKING FOR SAPHIRE 1 GB HD4670(Since I only play 2009 games at medium settings) WITH GIGABYTE 460W SMPS

NOW THE ISSUE IS THAT I HEARD FR VARIOUS PPL AND READ THIS THREAD FROM BELOW LINK THAT I MAY NOT GET THE FULL BENEFIT/GOOD FPS FROM MY HD4670 GPU DUE TO CPU BOTTLENECK(Since I have a single core proccy).

LOW FPS WITH HD 4670; CPU BOTTLENECK? - ATI - Graphic-Displays

SO GUYS I NEED UR HELP/ADVICE REGARDING A DUAL CORE PROCCY THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH MY EXISTING MOBO AND AVOID ANY CPU BOTTLENECK IN FUTURE.

MY MOTHERBOARD SPECIFICATION AND COMPATIBLE PROCCCY SERIES IS BELOW FOUND FROM HP'S SITE.

Motherboard description :
•Motherboard manufacturer's name: ECS RC410-M
•HP/Compaq name: Asterope2-GL8E

LASTLY I WAS WONDERING IS Pentium D 950 Presler (2x3400 MHz 12KµOps+16/2048 kb) A GOOD CHOISE?
IS IT AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET PRESENTLY?
WILL IT MEET MY REQUIREMENT AND WHAT IS ITS PRICE?

THANKS

Re: HELP NEEDED FOR PROCCY UPGRADE FOR EXISTING MOBO(Asterope2-GL8E) FROM HP

I doubt you'll be able to do that as last I saw it was only 800 Mhz selling at lower frequency side. that too dual core not pentium D series. Not sense me negative but with your current rig there is no point in investing money in GPU as almost all new games works well on C2D at least and few utilizes quad as well. Additionally your memory is just 1 gb which is not sufficient for almost all new games plus your 250 watt PSU I doubt will be able to cope. A bit surprising you bought P4 in 2k7, I very well remember using pentium D in 2k6. This is the reason why it is no way upgradable now.

In short, Its time to replace your machine buddy, update is not suitable.

Re: HELP NEEDED FOR PROCCY UPGRADE FOR EXISTING MOBO(Asterope2-GL8E) FROM HP

I totally agree with adi_vastava, its the time to replace your system.

P4 cant handle the load thrown by the modern games and it will not run stable while gaming. So, its best to go for full upgrade with i3/i5 proccy.

Well i think you made a big mistake purchasing P4 in 2k7 as in 2k7 Core 2 Duo was already rocking the market. Even i got my first system in 2k7 and that too Core 2 Duo. That's why i am able to play all the latest games.

As far as 4670HD is concerned, its a great card. I had purchased the card this month and it really rocks. So, now doubt regarding its performance and stability.

But at last your processor need a bigger upgrade than just Pentium D.

And i too made a big mistake while purchasing a branded system (HCL), but now i'll never ever repeat this mistake again.

Re: HELP NEEDED FOR PROCCY UPGRADE FOR EXISTING MOBO(Asterope2-GL8E) FROM HP

Thanks for ur reply, but u mean to say I have to replace both mobo and proccy with ram aswell(since my existing ddr2 wont be compatible) apart from graphics and psu which i had already decided to purchase.

In case If iam willing to do so what would be the cost against ur recomendation. budget approx 25k

thanks

no you can use your ddr2 with a compatible board ! just get a ddr2 bord with athlon ii x4 620 ! total will be around 7.5k for bith of these ! and hd4200 can overclock well to reach the level of a 9500gt ! :)

and for psu get gigabyte 460w for rs 2.2k ! total less than 10k ! dont get a gpu !

How can he use his PC2-4200 MB Ram on any current Mobo?? In Intel at least 667 is required. You did not read this or we really have AMD board supporting this speed RAM(shouldn't be possible AFAIK)

the ram slots are backward compatible dude ! a ram with 533mhz will work with 533mhz speed even if it is plugged in a 1333mhz slot !

DDR2 533 mhz ram on 667 mhz minimum mobo - Memory - Motherboards-Memory

>>the ram slots are backward compatible dude ! a ram with 533mhz will work with 533mhz speed even if it is plugged in a 1333mhz slot !

Ok. But still isn't it a bit risky as that speed RAMs are not in supported RAM list of Mobo you mentioned. (though there is no option so I think its a good idea to avoid buying RAM initially, if it works its good else buy new sticks)

hey thanks, sorry for not updating. well I am purchasing these stuffs next week
will be going for
gigabyte 785gm-us2h - 3950/-(ddr2 board)
athlon ii x4 630 - 4200/- (athlon x4 620 not available in b'lore)
gigabyte 460w psu - 2200/-

one last question, If Iam willing to replace my memory sticks too, do I purchase the same ddr2 board or purchase a ddr3 board with ddr3 memory sticks?
is it worth paying more for ddr3?

thanks in advance...

do not buy the 630 unless u will be doing video encoding etc, else the 555 for another 500 bucks with unlocked multiplier and L3 cache is pure win

phenom over athlon any day

whats the cost of Phenom II x2 555 and 2x2 ddr3 ram?
