Projector -- For Home Entertainement

idea

Adept
M8es ..

It was on back of my mind for longtime. Probably it is time for going in for 1 @ Home with some good market watch. :cool2:

Problem Area: 1. I dont know much about it. And this is a niche area. Mostly not available like any other computer products for demo in shops /malls etc. Very Few Distributors .. mostly piece is made available once you confirm the order.
2. What all MIN specifications to lock in for? other than

a. contrast ratio
b. lamp brightness
c. various supported input like TV/RCB/HDMI etc
d. min resolution supported. (Most of thenm support 1024X768 now).

I have already gone through quite few articles, recent review of projectors by Digit.

I am requesting all sort of i/p from you may it be technical watch out/alerts,prices,where to buy, what to avoid, what is min (like good daylight support) etc.. etc. whatever you feel like anybody should know before spending arnd 30-50K in projector.
May be if you have similar interest, we can initiate a go. :eek:hyeah:

PS: Projectors have come a long way unlike old days. They are really good option over LCD/TFT for movies/games etc for large screen. Nways this is not point of discussion here.

wont work man. Simple because of budget issues. 30-50k projectors are ONLY good for displaying Ppts and stuff. Not for normal use, including movies etc. + color reproduction isnt very good either. For really good ones you can use for multi-media purpose etc, be prepared to shell out double that amount or more.

A bigger monitor/LCD TV is actually a better idea. You can pick up like a 40" in 50k :p

Hi ,

Since I Only Come To Te Now i am Free Sometimes at Home ,I got Myself a Really Tiny Portable One From Benq I sit on My dining Table And Project The Screen Of The Laptop on The Wall Infront ,I Learn PCB designing On Eagle Over It .the Electronic Cirsuits Are Just OOOOOOOO AAAAAAAAA Ouch i Love It

Optoma HD65 is the best out there around 50-60K. Below that, its not worth buying. Get a TV instead. If you can import, look at the mitsubishi HC series projectors.

Thanks a lot for revert m8es.

You might be right. As it is a one time investment, budget is pretty flexible considering fact that projector can provide output size way bigger than lcd panel avai;ab;e @ sensible cost.

I have checked out few on ebay..BenQ,Sony,NEC ranging from 35000 0nwards having 2200 lumens, even with HDMI i/p etc.. but as Techie_007 rightly said .. they might be good at presentations and not for multimedia .. worst thing --> no demo available....

Hence i need all possible help i can get here...:(

Even on the expensive ones, colors etc ARE a problem. You will need to go significantly higher and I dont think you can still match an LCD in picture quality. Keep it in mind. For once in a while outdoor/cricket match use, its one thing, for regular movie viewing etc, its quite another

you will have to keep the curtains closed like almost everytime you want to use it.

my office has an expensive one and its too light if windows are not closed by curtains. also gets a blue shift sometimes. dont ask abt model no etc. no access to the conference room. :p

For that much (~20-25k), you can build a Full HD projector yourself.
Its not that difficult especially if you are interested in DIY Stuff....

You are right. They Cant Beat quality produced By LCD. But considering big size output.. some compromise is expected.

Thanks for input. The one we use in our office is pretty OK during day. it is a sony make. But curtains are a good idea.

For the home, you should consider 720P or 1080P projectors. However, I would imagine they are not quite in your budget, but prices have come down considerably in the last few years. I would recommend Panasonic as a brand and I've heard great things about the PT-AX200U in terms of it's brightness. Have a look at Projector Central for recommendations.

However, I am clueless about India prices

That happens. Many times you can get better deals from dealers than from dell themselves :p Usually the rep you talk to also decides wat to price the product at for you :p
