I have a recently brought a Nokia 6260 symbian based phone.I'm putting a lot of content(games, applications, etc) from p2p networks and other websites ;) on it.

I know its not safe thing to do due to of all the symbian viruses and trojans. So i wanted to know, is there anything i can do to make sure that application does not contain any virus, etc before uploading it on the phone.

not exactly....the only symbian phone virus thats there is one that keeps sending copies of itself to other phones within its range via bluetooth....and to check that i think just keep your phone near another BT phone and check ;)

Do not download apps from unsigned sources or unknown sources. Install a AV like the one from TrendMicro here
Or from simworks here
Switch on BT only when required.

But won't these antivirus s/w make the phone slow, i don't want to make it more slower, 'cause its is already a bit slow :(

So, suppose u know, u'r phone is infected, how do u remove it then.

The virus Icefu is talkin about is the Caribe virus. To check if your phone is infected, hold the menu key down for 3~4 seconds till the multitasking menu shows up. You'll see a task named Caribe running, and you won't be able to close it. It reduces your standby time and stuff since it keeps searching for other devices to spread to on Bluetooth. Like shiznit just said, keep BT switched off at all times, except whn you need it :)

Well, most viruses have a simple form of infection in Symbian. You can download a File Explorer program for symbian, and look in the directories specified on the net which the virus is known to infect.

Eg. The Caribe virus infects 4~5 directories, and can be deleted easily using FExplorer. My phone was infected with Caribe, and i removed it this way.

I wish what you said were true.

Although your point of spreading of such malicious content through bluetooth is usually how they work but the damage done far from just hopping from one mobile to another mobile with bluetooth connection.

In case you get infected or notice something unusual, a quick google search with appropriate keywords should get to where you want, also keep a check at f-secure blog. They are pretty much when it comes to identifying & removing mobile virus.
