... the PlayStation 2 has remained in control of the match, outselling the Xbox 360 in six of the seven months since the Xbox 360's debut ...

... Microsoft has averaged 246,000 console sales each month ... while the PS2 has seen an average of 473,000 units ...

Sony is the Microsoft of gaming consoles ?

The price is one of the major selling points.. That why I feel Nintendo Wiill Wiiin the console war soon. As for me i'm absolutely in love with my PS2 and as soon as I can afford it (hopefully the price will come down) I'm getting myself the PS3 (after November i.e.).

I don't believe it. It just further proves why good Graphics = no good but game library = everything.

Ps2 is STILL selling like this way. Does Sony even need a Ps3 to stay ahead in next gen?? :P

Logic people. The most basic of it at work here.
I would like to see the scenario when X360's start selling at $120.

There's a reason Toyotas outsell Beemers.

This is similar to why on Hyundai Santro sells more than Mercedes.

You r wrong brother ! Yes Price is a factor but not the only factor ! PS2 still owns 360 coz it has the awesome game Library and trust factor which 360 clearly lacks ! You Know Looks doesn't matter to most of the gamers ! They want good content thats all and if that good content is available for a cheaper price then why would'nt one opt for it !

^^Nope ! Infact PS2 will own 360 till the Release of PS3 ! But after that the scenerio may change coz the PS3 is quite expensive and after the PS3 Launch there will not be many good new games for PS2 ! so Maybe only then People will get Inclined towards the Cheaper and Inferior 360 ! :)

Ps2 will be selling solid until PS3's release. After that people will drop it for Ps3, which'll play ps2 as well.

Well .. the list of games for the PS2 is exhaustive ... and after the overheating incident with the X360 .. i guess this was unavoidable ...

There's a related, and very interesting, article "Sony's PS3 gamble: should the optical revolution have been optional?" here :

http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/PS3-gamble.ars .

... In Sony's eyes, this is a worthwhile trade-off because the PS3 will launch at a price point lower than most Blu-ray players on the market. They believe that the Blu-ray drive will spur not hamper sales...

... the Xbox 360 will be priced at US$299 and US$399, sans HD DVD drive, while the PS3 will be priced at US$499 and US$599, ready to spin BD-ROMs 'till the cows come home ...

... At launch, the Xbox 360 was believed to cost roughly US$525 to manufacture, about US$126 higher than the US$399 list price. In this scenario, Microsoft is eating about 25 percent of the cost ...

... Estimates on the PS3's total manufacturing cost weigh in somewhere between US$700 and US$900 ... If indeed this is close to the total cost of the components, we can estimate that Sony too is eating 25 percent with each unit sold ...

No matter how costly PS3 is...There are thousands of crazy fans who are going t buy it...Sony might not sell many units in the beginning, but once the price comes down..I don't think X360 has a chance with the steadily increasing lineup for PSX games...
