for all members who own a ps3 updated to either 2.00 or 2.01 - has the
firmware update been causing problems like xmb freezes or game freezing??

firmware 2.01 was supposed to correct issues related to 2.00 but my BD
drive conked out with 2.01. i was playing COD4 for a while and then during a
level the music stopped and the game froze while loading the next level.
restarted the PS3 and from that point the BD drive would not read any disks
that i popped in. but the rest of the console happens to be working fine
without any lag.

dismantled the ps3 and took a look at the inside of the drive. the drive motor
doesn't seem to be spinning although the sensors does recognize that some
media is present inside. the activity icon also appears simultaneously while the
media is inside the PS3 but the motor just won't spin.

is anyone facing the same problem??

No such problems here either. I had played Virtua Fighter 5 for about 5~6 hours continuously after I upgraded to 2.01 and no issues. Mines a 60GB PAL Edition. As Params mentioned, you should contact sony. The BD drive must have conked off.

I haven't had any crashes yet. You should take this to Sony.

wish it were that easy since i got no warranty left

plus the guys at the sony service centre are a real brilliant bunch. when i
bricked my psp(corrupted the f/w on the NAND flash - this happened way
before pandora was released) they told me that the motherboard was
fried since they couldn't figure out what happened. but they were sweet
enough to replace it within 3 weeks as it was still under warranty.

so i'm kinda sure they'll say the same thing when they take apart my PS3.

what are the model numbers that you guys have?
