Hello Peps!

Have been an avid PC gamer till now, the seed of thought to get a PS3 has begun :) Im an uber noob when it comes to consoles this forum has been great have got good views that has got the below questions out!

1. IS it safe to buy PS3 form letsbuy/ flipkart ?

2. Do the above retailers have older firmware 3.5 or below, i ve read thats a must to jailbreak and run games?

3. Should i opt for PS3 with a game or with the move bundle?

4. If the above isnt reliable should a local option (Bangalore) be considered?

5. I do have a portable 500giger should i still opt for 320GB or 160 GB would work?

6. Does the PS3 come with a HDMI cable or i need to get out outside?

Thanks in advance for this... Please enlighten :)

1. Its safe to buy from both but Letsbuy is slightly slow on delivery.

2. No idea, sorry.

3. That depends on you and what kind of games you like. If you like casual gaming then you can get the Move but mostly I've seen the gamers gettting easily bored of things like Move and Kinect.

4. Depends on the deal but I'd personally prefer getting it locally for peace of mind.

5. 160GB will work right and you can swap the HDD later.

6. Doesn't come with HDMI cable. Just get a cheap one from Ebay.

1. Yes.

2. Depends on your luck and their stocks. If they have an older stock then you might get lucky and get a PS3 with 3.5 or below firmware.

3. PS3 with a game as the move is nothing more than a gimmick at this stage and you are quickly going to get bored from it.

4. The sites are reliable. I would choose flipkart over letsbuy.

5. Go with 160 GB.

6. You have to buy it separately, Get it from flipkart for 500 bucks.

thts very informative, just to add on does the very fact we jailbreak the firmware it would allow oneself to run backup games correct? would there be any warranty issues if thats the case?

Since this wud be my first ever console is the gaming experience that good on a 42 incher LED TV wud it or still PC gaming is supreme?

Jailbreaking Voids the warranty.I game both on a ps3 and pc,i still think pc is better if you have the most upto date hardware, but consoles have some very good exclusives.

If you can bear with the low graphics then it surely is a rich gaming experience with some of the best exclusive games like MGS4, GOW3, Heavy Rain, Demon's Souls, Uncharted series.

That said, graphics are not that bad as the recently released UC3 is more like an interactive movie.

Also KZ3 looks beautiful as well.

But if you're concerned with the looks of the games then PC is obviously supreme but console exclusives won't be there on PC so its like a slight compromise.

500??

A cable worth 100/150 (which is the cheapest i saw on ebay) will do the same job then why suggest and specifically a 500 one ??

@ OP

Should i opt for PS3 with a game or with the move bundle?

Get a demo.. the move is decent bit but lacks the games atm. Its good for time pass but all boils down to how much you would want to use it. Frequency is less, but i still play from time to time... only with Sports Champion. Rest games for move are passable.

The games for the ps3 do have very very good gfx. Many games are optimized to highest levels for the ps3 and hence render astonishingly good display. PC gfx are a tad bit better, but to put it in a single line: You wont regret the graphics on the ps3 as much you ll regret not playing the console specific titles.

thts great inputs, the other query being if i had to pick up locally then what date of import / manufacture should i consider to be on sure? Im based outta blore any shops or suggestions most welcome.

I don't know about ebay but the cheapest I have seen locally available costs some 400 bucks. Now since he may already be getting the console from flipkart, why not order the cable as well. I personally wouldn't mind a couple of hundred bucks when I am already investing thousands.

No, jailbreaking won't void your warranty as you can always update your PS3 with the latest firmware. A 42" LED would be absolutely awesome for console gaming. I have a gaming PC but I have to admit that the gaming experience on a PC is like nothing compared to the experience with playing on a console. Graphics of specially console exclusive games are pretty awesome and you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely! There are a lot of folks out there who seem to believe that the 500 Rs cable sold at Croma under some no-name Chinese brand performs better in terms of IQ or even SQ. Sorry but it does not!

My boss happened to be one of them (just a couple of days back!) and I gladly proved him wrong when a 100 Rs cable plugged to the Asus O!Play Mini (got hold of the player a week back) gave the same results compared to the expensive cable which was sold to him by his TV dealer before. :P

Why spend unnecessarily is the question. If he can save that money and invest that into some titles, that would be a better proposition don't you think?

Hey, how much did you bought this O player for, what about its results ?

N ya, my roomate recently bought a xbox360 from flipkart, solid packing, price less than croma..the only drawback is that you need to wait 2-3 days from delivery....

They make sure nothing happens to yr box during transit !

160GB Non move bundle from either Letsbuy or Flipkart. yes either one. Letsbuy is just slower. Unless you want to start playing tomorrow, I would say go for the one that is cheaper. Both have a good return policy.

In case you want a move kit. Head over to IVG etc. many are up for sale and you will get it cheaper if you bargain.

You have to buy HDMI. Buy an el cheapo one anywhere, DO test it, before buying.

after that buy God of War for 800odd bucks second hand, Enjoy :)

That is a question for which the answer is stuck in an eternal loop. I have a PC worth a lakh but I still love my console. Some only own the console and some only the PC. People with both also prefer PC at times. So its just personal preference.

A console is a good investment and you are protected against arbitary upgrades seen in PCs. Also developers seem to code better for consoles as they pretty standardised over a game development cycle (a few years, I guess).

Don't worry about graphics. The answer PC has better graphics is only because you asked for it. The same way how Xbox and PS3 have slight difference in their graphics too. Don't worry too much about it. Especially when the current gen games seem to blow you off your feet. Just saw a demo of UC3 in Sony Center. Looks like I need to pick it up soon :)

Happy Gaming.

P.S. The best graphics I've ever seen is on a console apparently, its called "Heavy Rain". I say this after playing Crysis 2 and Black Ops on my PC.

Games, I would buy on a PS3:

Metal Gear Solid 4 : 1421

GTA IV Complete : 1334

Uncharted 1 & 2 Bundle : 2250

Uncharted 3 : 2699

Resistance 1 & 2 Bundle : 2250

Resistance 3 : 2499

Red Dead Redemption : 1299

Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare : 1157

God of War 3 : 1334

God of War Collection : 1899

Killzone 2 : 1334

Killzone 3 : 1334

Heavy Rain : 1454

Infamous : 1334

Infamous 2 : 2499

Dark Souls :

Tekken 6 : 1334

ICO & Shadow Of The Colossus : 1899

Motorstorm Apocalypse : 1334

Burnout Paradise : 1160

Fight Night Champion : 2299

WWE 12 : 2299

Gran Turismo 5 : 1499

Prices are from flipkart.

Most of them are PS3 exclusives, personally I wouldn't buy a multiplatform game if its also available on a PC for obvious reasons.

I guess ur quite Right in stating it boils down to personal preference, the point I got stuck with was either to buy a PS3 or invest a similar amount on a GeForce 560Ti Graphics card. But with a PS3 i get the option to play on a 42incher LED TV hence was my query on the graphic quality. Since this wud be my first foray into console if the graphics don't justify on a 42 inch TV didn't was a locked investment :)

Thank you for the list much appreciated :)

Around 3.5k INR. Let us not deviate from the topic while we are at it! :P

I would say go with the console now. The PS3 looks very promising now unlike a couple of years ago. The graphics are good too. I play on a 40" Tv myself.

Getting the console now would be more rewarding than the 560ti. You can always upgrade later when the next gen of gfx will start making the ps3 shoddy. I think in a year or most likely 2 years is when PC graphics would make the consoles look like N64. So don't worry about that. Just to reaffirm your belief check trailers or playthroughs on YouTube.

Also live on second hand games for a year. All good titles go for cheap. Should keep your hands full till then.
