So, today i plugged in my PS3 60gig,came back to my seat and not even before i could turn it ON,heard a short and fast Beep-Beep-Beep from the console and saw that the RED light was blinking continuously. No buttons were working and i had Dark Knight bluray inside the console.

So, panicking,i turned off the console, pulled out all cables and waited for some 2 minutes and tried again and to my relief, all was fine.I tried playing the movie for a few minutes and ejected the disk.Again turned off the console, and afterwords, the problem has returned and won't allow me to turn ON the console, whatever i do.On powering, It just beeps 3 times and flashes the RED LIGHT continuously and no buttons work.

Is this some sort of HDD failure? Can i use a normal 2.5" HDD and test it?If so, will the console have all XMB and stuff needed for the working?

This is an Out of Warranty console as it was bought around 2008 from UAE.Can i still get it serviced from Sony?

Thanx in advance for any help.....

CPU or GPU error- If you try to turn on the PS3 and it beeps 3 times and gives you a flashing red light then you may have a serious problem, the CPU or GPU may have been disconnected from the motherboard. Try the simple fix below; however if that dosen't work, you may have to send your PS3 to Sony or to get a good PS3 repair guide and fix the PS3 3 beeps yourself.

PS3 3 Beeps-Simple Fix

A typical case of 3BOD just like the YLOD. And AFAIK Sony India would dare touch a console purchased from abroad - you can still give it a shot though. A friend got his 80GB console which YLOD'd replaced with a new 120GB slim and he paid half of the price of the new console. Do perform a hard reset and see if it works.

Btw is the TDK blu-ray still inside the drive?

U need to go to a local vendor if u cannot solve it via Covering / Heating the PS3.

If you have good mastery over soldering, you can do it yourself, but I would advise u to give it to a local retailer who repairs PS3...

Hang On mate...do not lose hope....:)

@Ganesh: Like i mentioned in the first post, just after the first occurrence, i was able to restart the console just fine and play the movie for some time and i ejected the disc. But was not so lucky afterwards.

I ahve uploaded a video of the problem , plz check and see if anything can be done.

Redbull I have been thru the same problem you are facing right now. Even after soldering the Mobo, it didnt worked properly and then behave similar to what hpnd to you.

I got it replaced from the dealer himself, as it was his fault, got the new PS3 250G slim.

First try out all the methods mentioned on internet, which is w/o opening the PS3. If you are not confident about your soldering skills, then would suggest give it to retailer in gray market and ask him, if you can see what he is going to do wid ur PS3 (if possible) :)

it will prolly cost you 3-4k INR.

^Not worth it IMO. The PS3 may work for a couple of months and would eventually fail. Besides, unlike Bombay and other good cities where there are competent technicians to resolve such issues, I don't think we have one in Kerala. Not at least someone I have heard of until now.

I suggest you take the PS3 to the Sony Center and let's hear what they have to say.

Doesn't the 60Gb edition that has hardware backward compatibility of ps2 games.Shit. If nothing works then try selling it off on ebay because this model is pretty popular and there must be somebody willing to take the risk.

the 20,40,60gigs are very much prone to these probs ... i'll suggest selling this off and getting the new slim or atleast a fat 80gb
