PS3 Fat vs Slim

Alright guys I need to pickup a PS3 tomorrow for my brother as a diwali gift. Now the thing is that Sony India doesn't have the 120GB Slim and they are offering me the 80GB for 19.9k with couple of games free.

Is it a fair deal or should I bargain more?

And is ordering a Slim via KMD a better option? Does the Slim offer anything over the Fat in terms of graphics performance?

u wont get better (but equal) graphics performance....both slim and phat have similar h/w config....only advantage is smaller form factor

there is always scope for bargain.....bust buy could be arnd 18.5k to 19k
 
Get 1 with indian warranty also try frm croma out let for extended warranty, warranty for cosnoles is very important. Its around 18.5k and not 19990

the slim does have a lower power consumption.but since that ain't available officialy i would recommend the fat one.
 
Positives for PS3 Slim

- Less Flab

- Power efficient.

- Less Noise from the fan.

I heard few ppl ranting about the non glossy appearance of ps3, but that really is not something to vouch for a ps3. Better electricity bill and less noise makes up for a pretty good choice for the slim one.

If u get slim, my recommendation.. u get it.
 
Differences have been summed up already. In addition you cannot install a 3rd party OS such as Linux on the slim versions. Add to that less heat emissions! Heck, I can feel the warm air being expelled out of the PS3 each time I'm playing something.

Although some of the retailers in eBay has started retailing the PS3 slim (not sure if they're covered under the warranty), it has not been officially released or at least counting on the words of the SCE India head, he said the units will start shipping after diwali and would start hitting our shores early next month.

I'd vouch for the slim but since you need to pick one up tomorrow, go ahead with the phat! :)
 
If there is no intention of installing Linux, then by all means go for the PS3 Slim, smaller, less power consumption, less heat, 120GB HDD out of the box.
 
Get a PS3 Phat(cause it looks awesome)..plus the extended warranty is u want to.....even if it dies out within 6 months,u'll get a slim in replacement...thats what i did

Also... Uncharted and GT:p are the best games around!!!
 
^ Yeah exactly. Getting a sweet deal on the phat with GT5 and Uncharted along with an extra controller for 21kish.

P.S. - Anybody seen the new GT5 screens? :O Their abso-frickin-lutely mind-numbing!

go for it..

P.S you'll be getting GT5 prologue and not GT5...If you like FPS games, then u should opt for the Killzone 2 bundle...Another thing to keep in mind is to check the controller that is in the box...the 40GB versions have the regular gamepad unlike the 80GB console which has the dualshock 3.
 
Actually , Sony said that the 'phat' and the slim would both sell together until the stocks of fat version dried up. I am myself holding out for the slim version, hoping we get a Assassin's Creed 2 bundle or something....
