I'd reckon buying the Slim just for sake of reduced heat dissipation. In the long run, it may mean fewer YLOD issues. The slim PS3 has a smaller power supply and a massive centrifugal fan for expelling the heat out of the console. Heck, if not for the delays, I'd have grabbed the slim PS3 with a smile!

its not about tht..its about value for money ...phat with games is much more VFM thn slim ..but sooner or later ,they will come up with bundled offer with slims

well no one can say when,but as it with sonyindia,they first try to clear out the older stocks.my guess is by december.
 
Nov End - Dec begining is the Indian Launch date for PS3 i heard .. Bty incase u wont be able to install the Linux OS on Phat one would be able to convert it into a complete Media entertainment solution one that can play any format and stream etc ..

you can do that anyways without installing linux. you can stream any format from your pc by installing ps3 media server.

no its not a sony app. its a java app. it basically sets up a media server on the pc where you install it & from there you can share data to the ps3. the best thing is that for the formats that arent supported by the ps3, like mkv, ps3 media server decodes the data on the go while you stream it.

I am planning to buy it. So would like to know the reason for above as, finance is lil tight now so was planning to buy it in Jan. If linux on PS3 has some considerable advantage, ill get the PS380Gb now or wait for slim( with free games:eek:hyeah:)

Linux has no considerable advantage as such..its just an option

Also,you will get only 1 game with the SLIM(or maybe none),nut the 80GB PHAT gives u 2 games to play!!

Hold on a bit. The Slim should be here anytime now. You should buy the Slim since it runs a lot cooler than the phat. This implies fewer chances of the console getting YLOD'ed.
 
I am fairly sure that the slim doesn't have all the same usb ports and memory card slots as well... if that is important to you... you may want to check this fact :)
 
one of my friend is heading back from Toronto with a Slim. Might sell it for 17.5k. If anyone wants(PM me), can check with him.
