ps3 games region encoded?

hi all ,

i went to the sony store today to purchase a ps3. i had heard ps3 games are region free . however at the store i was told that in india only pal games work and he showed me a few ps3 games that mentioned PAL at the back . im confused now please advise. thanks in advance to all .

U can get your PS3 games from US too....PS3 games are region free, you can purchase Games from anywhere on Planet Earth.

Blu Ray & DVD's for PS3 are region locked, due to content suitability.

I am also planning on getting a PS3 from Down under;p. So how many regions does a blu ray movie have? And is there a way to break the region code of the bluray drive?

That is Sony World n00bs for you! As Andy mentioned, game titles are region free. Movies OTOH aren't.

See...the content differentiation will always be there, as NTSC-J will have Jap language and content allowed in Japan/Asian region. NTSC (US) will have content & language allowed in US/similar region. Nudity, etc. can also be found on NA version but not on EU version, sumtimes. So always check what different content that region based disc has and be rest assured that the Game will Play on any Region Bought PS3 Console.

I am not aware of breaking a Region Code of the BluRay Drive. Never felt the need to do that

Game are regions free, DLC content isn't. Blu-Ray movies are region coded as well.

Vercetti, if you get a Australian PS3, then it falls under Region B for Blu-Ray movies. So you'll need to buy the same region movies or region free ones.

Yes. Most of them are region locked. So if you have PAL title and download a DLC from a US PSN account, then it won't work.
