SONY'S NEW new super soaraway PS3 games will cost punters a stonking $100 or £52 when the machine is finally released.Currently only bigger titles on the PS2 reach the £39 mark.

This means that Sony has gone for a traditional business model where the price of the PS3 will be low, but it will make up its cash from software royalties.

As we know, the cost of the PS3 will not be that low, so the prospect of £52 games will probably make owning and running the console extremely expensive. The Xbox 360 console will be much cheaper and its games are nearly £20 less

Source : PS3 games are £52 each

Wow increasing the software prices to so high levels will just screw them over, the people who actually bother buying original games will move on to the Piracy wagon..

akS !

Edit : Its the inquirer... cant be bothered, checked around more. I see games being priced between 60$ and 75$..

Well, I doubt people will crack the Lens, anytime soon.

PS3, will be piracy protected very well.

I guess people will be forced to buy Original Games, for whatever prices.

People will always manage. Sometimes I think Sony will suddenly turn around and say "haha. we fooled u all. It actually just costs 300$" and the whole world gets excited and will buy.... oh wait, this isn't alice in wonderland.

This sounds about right. Sony are looking to suffer huge losses selling the PS3 at such a low price and so there is doubt they will try to make it up through game sales.

Yes, but since people will now only buy 1 game where they might have otherwise have bought 4..... elasticity of demand-supply. Maximum revenue is that point where volumes*price/unit = max. Sony clearly does not understand this, or else maybe their market research was performed on a survey group (or perhaps simply by) a bunch of yes-men.

I agree. A smaller price point for games which means increased sales may ultimately yield better profits for Sony. I guess Sony is really banking on how strong their fanbase is.

Is it confirmed? I really don't think Sony is going to go all the way with it. If they really are relying on their strong fanbase, then that's just simply relying a little 'too' much.
Games will cost around 60-70$ in start if they want to keep any competition with Wii60.

From other forums I visit, I heard the games will be around 70-80$ so I'm not sure if this is confirmed yet but I can see it happening.

hehehe.....we think alike :P ..... you posted the same thing some time back and even then I agreed with you :P......

Well the launch titles seem to be 59.99$

PS3 games priced at $59.99 - PlayStation 3 News at GameSpot

Well from what i have been reading around in X Scene, most ligit/illegit... groups claim that since PS3 is capable of supporting most OLD PS1/PS2 games, it consists the same rom technology of the old generation which might be able to be hacked/fooled to beleive that pirated copies are actually real ones...

Unlike X360, where they have limited access to titles and they work with some integration of emulation software to run old games...Anyways, everything can be cracked, its just about waiting...

akS !

^See? :) The price will prolly be in that range. Infact, Activision has already CONFIRMED it will be selling its Ps3 titles at 59.99. So there's nothing to worry about.

Even 60$ is a bit steep. Remember, the H/W costs are really high this time round, so TCO is going up. You can justify either a high console price, or high games price, but both is difficult.

60$ is justified imo, especially in Blu-Ray's case, so an increase in 10$ isn't really much at all considering the sheer amount of work put into those games and being much more powerful than a DVD. (Also considering even some PC games have gone up in this price range as well).

It could be much worse actually. Even N64 cartridges debuted for around 60$ a game and that was a decade ago.

Yeah, and the N64 was the start of Nintendo's decline. It was a great console, but it was supposed to compete with Sony's PS. $60 a game will make people cry. You can do that for the first few games, but I have no idea how long that will last. Because Sony is losing money galore on the PS3. I hope to god they figure out how to make some money from it, largely because I want the Cell to succeed.
