Interview with Phil Harrison.

Here's a post from one of the users who got the invite to HOME beta :

OK, I finished installing it. It creates a new XMB icon between GAME and NETWORK called HOME. I already signed-in and there more than 3,500 users on one of the two servers. I'm going to be busy designing my apartment. See you guys there.

This sounds extremely fun!

IN A NUTSHELL

>PLAYSTATION HOME is Sony's virtual world online community for PS3.

>It will be a FREE DOWNLOAD.

>You'll CREATE AN AVATAR, customize it, and wonder around communal areas.

>You'll eventually be able to CREATE AN APARTMENT, Invite friends over, then launch games from your own private space.

>COMMUNITY AREAS have casual games available to play.

>In your apartment, you'll be able to DISPLAY TROPHIES earned for unlocking certain, ahem, achievements in games.

>You'll be able to SHARE VIDEO and images stored on your PS3 with friends who visit your private apartment space.

>VOICE CHAT will be possible with a Bluetooth headset.

---

LET'S BE FRIENDS- The Central Lounge is the large social meeting space and is your initial starting point in HOME.

---

VIRTUAL PSP- Your Virtual PSP gives you access to all the navigation, features and options on HOME.

---

FACE TIME- Each person can customize his or her clothes and facial characteristics, with millions of potential combinations.

---

-----

HANGIN' OUT- The Games Space is where you can meet and relax with your friends with free casual games such as bowling, pool, and retro arcade games.

---

LITTLE BIG PLANET- Sony revealed this gem at its keynote speech along with Home, and it's got a lot of people buzzing. A co-op platformer, LBP lets you push, pull, and play with pretty much everything in the enviroment. User generated content is the name of the game here, with uploadable levels, objects and characters, and it looks incredibly clean and crisp in motion, with great style, too. Look for a demo on PS Network this fall.

---

PARTY ON THE PATIO- Your Home Space is your private apartment where you can invite your friends and family. Your free, initial apartment can be decorated and upgraded to the height of luxury with furniture, accessories, pictures and videos from your own collection.

The sharing part is what interests me the most.

1. The videos and music will be shared, streamed from your PS3 hard drive to the TV set and Music player system in your apartment, all the people in YOUR home will be able to see it. This part of HOME in a nutshell will be an HD version of a virtual Youtube.

2. Homes are going to turn into adult gatherings with the host streaming all kinds of porn. This will attract lawsuits and worried parents who find their kids late at nights in strange people's "HOMES" viewing their "Content".

3. This is going to take up a monster of a connection. All the content will be HD, PS3 is HD. And 256k already chokes on youtube which is a far-cry from HD. I'm guessing 1-2mbps will be the minimum requirement to get in.

@ Params7 sorry mentioning it as a Game:D

256Kbps here in India is standard..but out there almost everyone uses 1-2Mbps connections...my friend who stays in US uses 2Mbps connection only for surfing...to downloads he uses ~4Mbps connection....we would have to upgrade to 2Mbps connection soon...TATA gives a good option but no unlimited Dl's available...:(
Streaming of HD Videos....viewing them on HDTV....WOW...it seems so real..like living it...:hap2:
