I am unable to decide if I should go for the PS3 or not. At 399$ for 40GB one with bundled Spiderman Blue ray Movie pack it seems like a nice deal..

Factors making me think about buying

1. Blue-Ray player.

2. Storage space for music/photos.

3. I dont have a DVD player in my room. Plays DVD and makes it look better they say...(eh...Really..?).

4. Occassional gaming....

5. Wi-fi.

Factors making me think against buying

1. I am not going to be able to get too many Blue-Ray discs regularly.

2. I am an occasional gamer and even less of a console gamer. The PS3 as a gaming device is of negligible value.

3. I can get a HD-DVD player for 170$. Agreed it is only 1080i but then my display isnt fullHD either...So that may suffice and I can save 220$.

4. Sometimes I think I can also browse internet using PS3, but its not intuitive is it...

I am stuck.

Judging by your post, I don't see the point of getting one in your case.

But if you would like to buy me one, that's cool :)

currently getting a PS3 is of no use. But it would gain some momenttum next year when PS3 exclusives release.

just check whether you get the latest PS3 titles at your nearest shop/mall etc.

availability of PS3 titles are a major and only issue.

more than the availability the prices of PS3 games are an issue. They are ridiculously priced.

Guy's he has already stated that the PS3 as a gaming machine is not of that importance to him. Any way to tell the truth PS3 titles have more availability than XBOX 360 in India due to XBOX's region coding. Very few PAL XBXO 360 titles are released in India and the availability of NTSC titles is not that great. Only the other hand PS3 titles are not region coded, a few released in India are avaialble from Planet M's, but even the latest and top titles not yet officially released in India are very easily available of eBay.in shops. I do agree that the price of the titles is very high compared to XBOX360 and PC.

@vij: If you are looking for a Blue Ray player, then PS3 is considered to be one of the VFM options. But considering the cost of BlueRay movies and issues with availability at least in India and even on Play-Asia, I don't consider Blue Ray as a whole to be a VFM deal at all.

If you are looking for a DVD player, then there are lots of cheaper options. If you are planning to get a PS3 from US, then you will not be able to play DVD's bought in India, so its not much use that way.

In essence a PS3 is a gaming machine, so don't buy it pretending it to be something else. Every other feature of PS3 is secondary. Buy it only if your primary purpose is to game on it.

Thanks everyone...especially Nemesis...If PS3 bought in

US cant play DVDs here then it makes my decision very easy.

PS3 goes out.

Guys, I have decided on getting the PS3 if this pricing is right...

Buy PlayStation3 Console (HDD 40GB Model) Clear White - 110V - Order Now!

40GB PS3 is listed at abt 17k only :lick:

I will play the odd game on weekends and use this as a DVD player...Plus my sister will be gifting me about a dozen blue ray movies :)

But seriously have the prices dropped so low...At that price it seems like a no-brainer.

Edit: Thats not Indian price is it :(

Damn....Whats the price in India...?

That price+shipping should be less than 24k (Legal PS3 Price).

17.3K+4K(Shipping)=21.3K = Play-Asia Price.
