Guy's need some urgent help.

I am going to purchase this cable for HDMI to DVI-D Cable for connecting a PS3 to my Dell 2007WFP.

eBay India: Gold Plated HDMI - DVI-D cable for Playstation 3 PS3 (item 110182952298 end time 27-Oct-2007 17:30:58 IST)

Is the price alright on this one. Can I go ahead and order?

Also ordering this converter for connecting the 3.5mm stereo headphone/speaker pin to PS3.

eBay India: Audio Adapter- 3.5mm Stereo Male to 2x RCA Phono socket (item 110129297730 end time 16-Nov-2007 20:51:27 IST)

Also need some more help. I cannot always keep connecting and disconnecting the DVI-D on my display, So I need some sort of DVI-D switcher to switch the source from one to another on the fly.

Are you sure that using that adapter you can connect ur headphones/speaker to PS3? I think PS3 would have RCA (yellow, while, red) outputs like PS2. So, if you want to connect headphones/speakers, you'll need an adapter with RCA female inputs on one side and headphone/speaker female on the other side. The link you have given has female RCA on one side but male headphone jack on the other side, so it wouldn't work.

I had purchased an adapter from a local shop for Rs. 50. It wasn't really an adapter in true sense, actually i told my requirement to the shopkeeper and he assembled the adapter by combining two adapters. I used it with my PS2, but the sound from headphones was very low. So, connecting speakers should give a better amplified output.

So, basically you need an adapter with female RCA on one side and female headphone jack on the other side.

One query: Which option is better: using an HDMI-DVI cable or HDMI-DVI adapter. HDMI-DVI adapters are much cheaper i guess.

Oops... I posted the link of the wrong adapter. The one I am getting has a 3.5mm female at one end and 2 x RCA female at the other end.

Does the 2007 have HDCP. I think PS3 won't work over hdmi w/o it. Not sure about this, but please check before buying anything.

Yup.. It does have HDCP, but it seems some people have had problems running the PS3 on Dell2007WFP when they used some costly HDMI-DVI cables while the cheapo cables available on Monoprice for $5 worked fine.

i told you before also. it will mostly not work.

rather get that tv box i told you about. will work guaranteed.

u can ask mod2odd if it works or no. he has bought 3-4 cables from ebay & all dint work.

Actually there were some steps too through which people have got it to work on the Dell 2007WFP. I had bookmarked the link at home. Will post it in the evening.

Will also get that XCM transcoder from Play Asia. Only problem is that if it somehow gets struck with customs, there would be no way out for me as I am in Mohali. btw, how many days do they take to ship and the shipment to arrive?

i bought a PS2 Adapter from play-asia and it was delivered in exactly 2 weeks. Shipping was free and there were no customs at all.

yupall 3-4 cables were tested on my 2007 fwp n none worked

Hey did you people try this...

Here's a tip to save all you new PS3 owners more than a few minutes of confusion. Even if you go out and buy the HDMI cable (not included) to use on your PS3, you'll still have to use the composite AV cable to set up your console first. Make sure to set your video inputs on your TV to display the video source that the composite cables are plugged into when it boots.

After you get into the menus, you can go into system display settings and change the display to HDMI, then switch over to Video 8 (or whatever your TV is) to display 1080p/1080i/720p.

PS3 Timesaver Tip: HDMI Not Enabled At First

I have also found many people were unable to use the HDMI cable with the 2007WFP at first, but later got it working by manually changing the output to HDMI and with resolution set to 720p. I have also come across instances where the HDMI connection is detected by the PS3 by default and asks you to switch to HDMI automatically, if you do this, then even though the HDMI output is automatically selected, it outputs 1080p resulting in a blank screen on the 2007WFP.

I have also searched extensively for the 2007WFP problems and except in one case, where the cable itself was faulty, most of the peoples problems were solved by setting the resolution manually. So I am going for the HDMI cable for now. If it doesnt work I will then order the VGA box from Play-Asia.

btw, If anyone has a PS3 and Dell 2007WFP and a HDMI to DVI cable handy, I request that they try this and let us all know the result. :)

Finally got my PS3 to output 720p to my Dell 2007WFP through the HDMI to DVI-D cable mentioned in my first post. As I said HDMI will not work out of the box with this display. If you let it select the settings automatically after it detects HDMI, it will just give a black or green screen as it defaults to 1080p. I had to cancel automatic process and manually set the resolution (720p) and sound settings and it worked flawlessly. Hope this helps people (Especially stormblast, soulfire and mod_to_odd) who have tried and given up on HDMI with this display. :)

that is ok. i can also try it on a hdcp enabled screen. even though mine is non hdcp it still supports 720p res. so i think it might work if i set it manually.

is the dell 2007 hdcp compatible?

Dell 2007WFP is HDCP enabled. This will not work on a Non-HDCP display since the digital signal sent out of HDMI port is in encrypted form and can only be decrypted back by a HDCP compliant device. A HDMI to DVI cable is just an adapter, not a converter. Since Both HDMI and DVI are directly compatible except for the difference in connectors they just put a DVI on one end of the cable and HDMI at the other and no signal conversion is involved here.

Anyways Here are the steps I did to use this cable with 2007WFP.

1. I plugged in both composite and HDMI to DVI from the PS3 to my display and started the PS3.

2. Since I was already using the composite, when it booted up it detected the HDMI cable and asked me whether to switch to HDMI automatically. This is where most of the people have problems. If you allow it select settings automatically, it will default to 1080p and just give a black or green screen. So select cancel for automatic configuration. It will just give the output from composite.

3. Go to display setting and manually change the output mode to HDMI and confirm. It will ask whether you would like it configure automatically. Select no.

4. Now switch to the DVI Input in the monitor. Th display will probably appear be greenish or a corrupted in some manner. Ignore that and go to the display settings and select the output mode again. It must probably be already selected to HDMI and when you select it it will give 2 options 1. Automatic 2. Custom. Select the custom option and you get a choice of HD resolutions starting with 480p. Here Select 720p (second option) and confirm. The display will go blank for a moment and then come back again without any corruption in glorious 720p. :P
