PS3 Under $400 in Japan?

n the past months, the Japanese blog CoolGamer has been a dependable source of early information regarding the Japanese game market. Not once has their news turned out to be a false lead, so that's why it was pretty important today when the site updated with a small notice saying "PS3 price set below 40000 Yen," which is about $400 at current exchange rates.

In the update, the blogger writes, "In the latest Famitsu, a very important person mentioned that the PS3 price would not be over 40000yen". This information correlates to a previous comment from a Sony rep a few months back, who mentioned the same price. With any luck this will turn out to be the case, and Japan will see the PS3 in the spring of 2006 for slightly under $400.

One thing to note though is that the PS2 was also released in Japan for a bit under 40000 yen, but when it came to the U.S. it was sold for a hundred dollars less at $299. It's not out of the question that same sort of pricing scheme will be employed this time as well.

If the PS3 retails @ 300 Dollars.. itll go a BIG hit!

I feel the "Core" System will cost 300 dollars and the PS3 with Wireless remotes and all will cost 400 Dollars.

My guess is as good as yours. :).

Ill be getting this in MArch if it releases then or by May when my Mum goes to USA :).
 
Some bad news if you may call it that though !

But after Sony’s recent PS2 debacle overseas, it was reported that Sony spokesperson Reiko Sakamoto told the press, “It’s hard to say the PlayStation 3 will be 100 percent backwards compatible, but as we said earlier this year we aim to make it so as much as possible.” If they’re having trouble making minor changes to the PS2 and actually leaving a bit of doubt as to whether the PS3 will work as expected, well, we’re not liking the sound of this, not one bit.

I don't really give a damn to backwards compatibility since i had the ps1 when i got the ps2. When i got the ps2 i never really went back to the ps1 games. :P But a lot of people would really like to play ps2 gems like mgs, burnout 3, silent hill 3,4 etc.

Developers unhappy with PS3 dev tools?

PS3 with controller with other consoles standing nearbyâ€The latest issue of Japanese economy magazine, Weekly Diamond, reveals that developers are unhappy with the state of PS3 development tools, and software is likely to be late in coming for the hardware.â€

President of Enterbrain, Hirokazu Hamamura, also said: “We are unlikely to see games exhibiting a level only PS3 can achieve until the end of 2007,†due to the (alleged) fact that “PS3 dev tools have only just started shipping to developers this month, while 360 tools were shipped last summer.â€

Comparisons to the PS2 launch were also made since Blu-ray is not as sure a thing as DVDs were five years ago.

its happening, i think...Microsoft will not only get a big head start in sales, but they've got the developers with them as well for the first year...if M$ can pick up the pace this generation and be able to almost equal Ps3 in the market..they've got the chance to beat Sony next-next Gen.
Still, if developers do unlock ps3 dev tools by the end of 2007, does that mean it'll be better than 360's when unlocked?

NO! While developers get used to practicing on ps3's dev tools by late 2007, other developers would be fully elite proff's with 360's hardware..in other words - 360 will be above the ps3 at least with it'll come to developing..which may give the 360 a chance to have a better gaming library..becuase graphics don't matter, the gameplay does, and i think M$ learnt its lesson from their best grapahics prducing console in the market today, the Xbox, which has stood second next to the weakest system in terms of graphics from the trio, the Ps2.
Also, HD-DVD will be more common with the general public, while the PS3 will be trying to produce an ENTIRERLY new media, the Blu-Ray to the market, 360 will be going for HD-DVD which i think will be more commonly used being only a successive relative to the DVD today.

Where Nintendo Revolution may stand in between them..still remains to be seen.
 
I read somewhere that John Carmack (The FPS GOD) commented in an intwerview that XBOX 360 will outshine PS3. He was trying to suggest PS3 may have 20% more power under the hood but on XBOX one has 30% more ease in developing games for there consoles due to better dev kits. What this suggest is that more and more people will develop games faster(time frame wise) for XBOX and it will also be easier for them make full use of the tech available to them as compared to Sony's PS3...

I rate John as the GOD of FPS. ID for one makes awasome engines and they have some of the best peole working for them so i will truley beleive the words of Carmack when he says 360 will be console to go for...

yep i saw an aritcle exactly sayin wat u said and i for one belive that when john carmack says that xbox 360 is better then it is better :hap2:
