[PSA] Don't buy yearly plans from your ISP

Well ACT may upgrade the speed automatically but the end result is barely different. Pretty much every evening the speed is < 500kbps (yes, bits) on my "75" Mbps plan. Only in the morning I get the advertised speed and that too only for torrent. Youtube or any website browsing feels like a worse than ADSL connection, same with direct files download from anywhere outside India. I liked it when they had 10/20Mbps speed which were available 24/7.

That depends on your isp. Not all ISPS are the same.

Why? Cause they will not upgrade your plan for free if the speeds increase in between.

I had bought a yearly plan of 2Mbps from my ISP (was getting a month free) in January this year. Unknown to me around Jan end they doubled the speeds from 2-4Mbps
for the same
price. :(

Was looking at their site today and saw the new plans. Called the CC. After a few minutes of talking and some hold time listening to elevator music, I was given only one option - if I wanted the new plan speeds for the remainder of the duration I had paid, they wanted me to pay extra money. I said no. CC said they couldn't do anything else.

So it is like a year's loss of money to me now. Stuck at low 2Mbps speeds instead of 4. :(

So don't pay for more than 3 months now. Data plan prices are decreasing everywhere and even small ISP's are reducing their prices.

That depends on your isp. Not all ISPS are the same. You must always check with friends or relatives before applying with any ISP.

I subscribed for ACT Broadband a month back and paid 6 Months rent in advance. The services were down for 6 Full days last week and no one turned up despite of multiple calls and followups and hence decided to disconnect my connection.

I reached out to Help desk and I was told that in case I cancel my subscription, they will not refund my balance amount. Instead it will be credited in my ACT account and can be used later when I need or transfer it to some one using ACT.

Now Im stuck with bad services and also loose my money ... Good trap by ACT. Please beware of ACT.

You might want to check with them and raise a complain on the speed drops. I have ACT and yearly subscription of 75mbps plan and am not facing any such speed drop issues. I would have raised a havoc if I had to face such issues as I play online games in the evening till late in the night.

I had raised numerous tickets and hey magically solve them the next day only to reoccur after a couple days. Lately it seems to have improved a lot, by that I mean average 25-40Mbps instead of crawling speed so technically still much lower than 75Mbps but I lost energy after umpteenth of complaints. They still somehow throttle the youtube / website speed to around 2-5Mbps though.
