Yep, you read that right folks. Mere days after its launch and somebody's already hacked the PSP Go. Hold your horses, though! There are a few caveats.
The one responsible for this hack is FreePlay, who you may know for his work on the Sparta SDK and his recent run-ins with Team Mack. Before you go out an buy a Go thinking it's wide open to homebrew, here are a few disclaimers from the dev:

* This was a known exploit that was abandoned because better prospects came along. I did not discover it; I just figured out how to make it work properly. Better hackers than I likely figured it out way before I did; they just never used it for anything I know of.
* I won't be releasing this or divulging the name of the game involved. It's a proof-of-concept, and it may become more developed privately, but until there's a worthwhile reason to release it it'll stay private. I'd prefer that Sony not patch it before it becomes really useful.
* It's user-mode only, meaning no flash modification, no piracy, no advanced custom themes, no plugins - none of that. I wouldn't expect anything else to come from it, unless I get some help.

There's no telling if this exploit will eventually be made public, but at least now we have definite proof that the Go isn't homebrew-proof after all. Kudos to FreePlay for a job well done (also, thanks for telling us about it)!

Basically, exploit has been found by loading certain hacked save data files from an unnamed game.
Freeplay managed to run a text file on his PSP Go (A basic hello world) and also dumped the PSP Go memory and flash0 to his Memory Stick M2.
Somebody wake up the Sony's firmware update team.
I bet they gonna swearing at FreePlay. ;)
.. unless Sony themselves did this to boost the PSP Go Sales.
Whatever it is.. Sounds good. :)

thanks for the info Spacey.

but AFAIK, this has not been supported by anyone else till now. one guy, who is being very very secretive about the so called "hack", who is not even naming the game and method used to hack, is claiming it.

this exploit doesnt even allow us to write to flash0, only dump it.

anyhow, i really do hope more people find more ways to use this exploit.

if so, then the PSP Go will be one of my future purchases. :)

@Phoenix

Quite frankly this seems to be a sensible move by the person.

PSP Go was launched with a huge library of games and Sony mst be having sleepless nights trying to figure out which game has the room for exploit.

By the time anything concrete wd be achieved by Sony, the ramification of that hack can be tremendous.

Sony blocked the use of pandora and since then ppl are forced to use temp hack. Without any info, Sony's task becomes more difficult.

This move will surely make Sony go round in circles and hopefully psp go wd be getting its unlocking code/method out soon.

Nope.

Would rather purchase another psp slim rather.

PSP Go is rather a scary thing. Somehow digital Copy of the game never sounded good to me.

UMD allows you to sell/purchase at bargain rates.

With PSP Go, you are at Sony's mercy. Updates WILL have to be done as i am sure your logging/purchasing priv. would be taken away until n unless u do it.

Even now, the psp are not repaired in India, they are replaced.

Now that is a scary thing. Anything happens to the game file, i am not too sure about the response from the Sony ppl. (altho this mite be unnecessary concern, but with Sony i d rather not take any chances.)

if the Sony guys remove the content from PSN, then nothing can be done. Atleast i can search for the game umd from somebody.

Lastly,

My psp mainly is an emulation system. With PSP GO's no UMD feature, any given day i accidently or under duress go for an update, every chance that my emulators will be rendered useless.

So basically a PSP No Go :)

The PSP GO has been officially canned by SCEI Japan.

Sony decides to continue the production of the PSP 3000 and would be concentrating on the launch of the NGP this year.

Mind telling me from when did ya start purchasing UMDs???? ;)
I think most of us out here who has ever owned a PSP in any form or factor has got the isos or csos.

I hope SONY does this to the PSP now since they plan to continue selling it after NGP release:

1. Introduce PSP 4000

2. Better battery, lower price tag

3. make use of new tech 28nm goodiness, make the device light and slim

Only thing they'll do now is a price drop - rest are outta the window as NGP arrives within 8 months now.
