This mite very well Spell DoomsDay for Sony ppl ..
A new technique called as the Pandora's Battery allows any of the classic PSP to be revived from a bricked state and downgrade any version of the classic PSP.
Earlier the scenario was like if ANY user who had Bricked his PSP while Installing a custom firmware on his/her psp .. had to send the PSP for revival to a Sony center.
Needless to say, Sony Corp had the policy of installing the Latest of the Official Firmware on to the PSP, rendering the PSP Unmoddable for quite sometime.
Now this new technique allows the PSP to be unbricked and/or hacked by using two very simple components :
- A MSPD card of atleast 256MB, which is pretty cheap nowadays.
- A PSP Battery (Can use a spare third party battery or even the original One)
Though if the original battery is being used, another set of program has to be run to enable the battery to be used again normally.
The catch here is one needs an already modded PSP to be used as the conversion engine.
The modded battery is called as the jigkick battery.
1. You run a program on a hacked PSP that will convert a standard PSP battery into a jigkick battery.
You can't then use that battery normally.
2. You run a program to generate the unbricker memory stick image, built from the v1.5 update EBOOT (note that this, and the custom IPL (initial program load), means the release is completely free of Sony copyright materials).
3. You run some programs on a PC to install the image to your memory stick.
4. Now, you have a battery/memory stick pair that works just like the famous jigkick combination. Just insert them into any PSP (even a bricked one ) and the PSP will be reinstalled with the v1.5 firmware.
As mentioned before, the Jigkick battery, if needs to be restored back to its original status will have to be treated again with another set of code so as to render it reusable again normally.
The code has been designed by some of the top names in PSP hacking
(Dark Alex was involved too ), under the name of the Prometheus project. The plan was to release it much later on, maybe after the release of the PSP lite.. (that wd have been a HUGE slap on Sony's Face.. Thwackkk!!! ) but some moron stole/leaked the code to the general public and in order to save any profit going the leechers way, the team decided to release it sooner.
Besides De-Bricking, the code can be used to downgrade any of the existing firmwares of the Classic PSP, and for obvious reasons the PSP lite has not been tested for the time being.
I recall ...For the PSP users, the term Bricked 'was' scary sometime ago :bleh:
