All,

My first thread in Techenclave

Im considering upgrading my PSU and going modular. I just purchased the HD4850 1GB and while it works well with the current PSU that I have, I have a itch to upgrade ;) !!! I currently have the Ultra V series 500W (ULT-500P) which I purchased from the US two years back and has been working great for me with a single rail and 28A on +12V.

I have shortlisted three choices and need your help:

1. Antec TruePower New 650W Power Supply (TP-650) @ Rs 5450 shipped at TheITDepot.

By the way, does someone from TheITDepot take orders at TE ?

2. OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W @ Rs. 5,700/- + shipping via KMD (Newegg)

Note that I do not get any warranty here as it comes from USA. But the PSU rocks and I have used OCZ before.

3. SeaSonic S12II 500W SMPS @ Rs 5150/- shipped via TheITWares

Im leaning towards the Antec, but have no prior experience with TheITDepot and am not sure how they work and provide proper bills for warranty if I need it.

Please shoot your suggestions !!!

^No issues with The IT Depot. They're as good as any dealer on TE. I'm leaning towards the Antec TP650. The Seasonic 500 is equally a good buy but I'm sure you can extract more juice out of the Antec than the Seasonic. There maybe hardly any differences in the efficiencies of both the power supplies so you can choose whatever fits your budget!

Yeah, the choice is not clearcut in terms of quality and even worse, the difference of Rs 500 in each case seems irrelevant.

How good is the Antec and Seasonic service in India ? I have had some PSU's blow up in the past and am always worried about this !

Antec's after-sales service has been pretty good going by the hearsay! Cyber Space Abacus Pvt Ltd, Chennai it is IINM.

Seasonic was just launched by The IT Wares recently. Cant comment on the customer support since I didn't have to deal with him on this front yet but have heard mixed reviews on the same. Where're you based btw?

@Gannu, Im based in Bangalore.

BTW, Im going to chennai this weekend, so maybe I can drop into IT-Depot shop and save on shipping ! Wonder if they have a retail shop as their address is on ECR road, too far !

^ Rahul can clear this as he deals in seasonic (tirupati as told by rahul)

EDIT: will check again with rahul

My friend got a Seasonic 380 from Tirpati the day before yesterday and was assured that they will provide RMA service. :)

Go for Seasonic, no thinking required.

I personally have the 700w model of the ocz modxtreme and am extremely happy with it. No issues and works like a charm. And absolutely quiet as it has a 140 mm fan inside.

But from what I have read, Seasonic seems to make very very good PSU's. You could also look at Corsair, and probably look at a 700W model, as this will kill your upgrade itch for atleast 2-3 years.

You personally have the OCZ (Where did you buy it ?) and are very happy with it, yet recomend the Seasonic ? Any specific reasons, because the Seasonic has the lowest wattage among the three ?

And why is Antec not on your recommended list at all ? Im not trying to question your logic as each person has their own line of thought, but Im kind of convinced with the Antec and am looking to see if there are any reasons why it would not be the best choice.

^ Dude correct facts.

Though seasonic has lowest wattage but has dual 17A rails which is enough for 4850. He didn't recommended Antec coz its not available anywhere though if you can source from anywhere get it, its also a damn good PSU.

Seasonic considered to be one of the best PSU manufacturers.

Sorry boss, but my facts seem to be right :D ! No one upgrades to just satisfy their current need. I always look at the next 3 years when I upgrade and want the best bang for my buck.

1. Seasonic is one of the best, but Im not comparing it with a Zebronics. Im comparing it with two closely matched brands, Antec's and OCZ's. So it does not matter if they have 17A on two rails; the Antec has 4 rails with 25A on two rails and 22A on two rails and seems like a better bet. So if someone is still recommending the Seasonic, I would like to understand why.

2. Antec is readily available in TheITDepot.com

The reason I said Seasonic, is that they are reputed to be one of the top three guys in the PSU market.

The reason I dont recommend OCZ is that there is no local warranty. That is something that I think is very very important.

And the reason that I have not mentioned Antec, is that I really dont think they are serious about the Indian market. I have followed up with them for some products for months on end with no stock available.

So if you are getting seasonic, with local warranty, go for it, or like I said corsair is also very very good, on par with seasonic, so go for that.

What I meant was even 380W when compared to CM 4XX, if you compare PSU by their wattage, u'll go by CM. But the fact seasonic can handle very easily 4850 easily even though its wattage is lower.

So don't just go by wattage take rails into consideration when purchasing PSU. But don't compare rails on cheap PSUs as what they claim is total BS.

As i already told if you can avail Antec, go with it.

ITDepot is located Near Adyar Bus Depot
Go directly and bargain hard

When I purchased CM600W, they gave me a good discount and saved on shipping

AFAIK, they are the Antec distris in India

I just spoke to TheITDepot and like a typical indian online shop, they are backing out of their own online price. They have stock in their showroom, but are claiming a price of 8k. When I argued with them that I could order online at 5200 at their own website, they claim they have no stock for online sales !!!

Finally got another call back from them offering a final price of Rs 6400 if I pick up from their showroom. Wondering what to do now !!!

I would have recommended Corsair, but they have jacked up the prices in India bigtime
When i bought TX650 abt 9 months back, it was 6K all incl.
Now it sells for 6.8K plus
