We are considering to switch over to a BSNL leased line from VSNL leased line. The charges for VSNL LL @ 128 kbps 1:1 is 4 lacs per annum as compared to 5 lacs for BSNL LL @ 512 kbps 1:1 which is why we are considering the switch.

I just wanted to know about BSNL suport and connection stabilty...is it worth?

TIA

Regards.

A query... (if Ferrari does not mind me asking in this thread :) ), what is the difference between leased line and a normal connection??

^^ i think leased line comes with a domain/IP address block. I mean u r given a whole range of internet accessible IP address. More like a 254 static IP's.

Ferrar! is this correct ??

yes partly..we got a a block of 30 IP addresses to use from.

"Internet leased line" is a permanent connection between you and the service provider through a leased digital circuit which is always on and provides high quality internet access. The service provider signs a SLA (Service Level Agreement) for guaranteed data transfer rate and maximum uptime.

The biggest difference between a leased line and a normal connection is reliability. Whereas home connections are on a best effort basis, as ferrari mentioned, in a leased line there's generally an SLA with a clause for guaranteed transfer rates and uptimes. It may also contain a penal clause for any fault or deficiency in service. You also get a range of IP addresses to setup ur own server/domain.

In our college we have 1.5mbps leased line (its a microwave based one, a big dish in the top of the building) from bsnl with 16 static ips. It costs about 16lakh per annum. Its point to point so if there is any tilt we stand a chance to get lower speeds, till now we didnt face any such problem. Apart from it there was quite a few times disruption in service ( not completely but very very low speeds) Has happened 3-4 times in a year. Apart from it speed is good ( i.e u get maximum all the time) n service is that that great, they dont come instantly to solve the problems, they take their own sweet time.

Great info... thanks...

Also would like to add one more point that it is not based on ADSL. So in short and sweet the uploads or downloads will be a full network speed. So very good for setting up ur own servers.

Thanks for your feedback archish. I did ask them for a list of thier clients and the list included Baja Allianz Pune and Bharti Vidyapeth and few other software firms that i have heard of...

Also one important question. Did your organization sign the SLA??.becoz i came to know they don't sign it... :S

anwayz thnks..

Regards.

To add to the difference between regular and leased line

In the US

ADSL 1.5 Mbps = 25$ per month

T1 1.5 Mbps (leased line) = 500$ per month

@ferrar!

I am not too sure if they have signed SLA but bsnl guys check the throughput at regular intervals and keep a record of it.
