CPU/Mobo Q: AMD X4 955 BE + which Mobo + ? 4GB DDR3 RAM =Rs. 25K

Hello all. Its my first post & thread... glad to be a member here!!:cool2:

Thanks to whacky_rohan; I have decided to go in for the AMD's 955 BE. But totally confuse which mobo will be best for the CPU..

My budget is 25k for the three components. I plan to future proof my pc.

So I need help from the guru's here deciding the mobo and ram!

I plan to buy a 3D card + cooling device some time after a few months..

So I have finalized 2 boards with on-board display:

1) Asus M4A78T-E (ASUSTeK Computer Inc.)

2) Biostar TA790GX A3+ (BIOSTAR :: TA790GX A3+ :: Overview)

Now earlier I had finalized on the asus, but after reading windwithme's review (http://www.techenclave.com/reviews-and-previews/amd-phenom-ii-x4-955-biostar-137369.html) i'm in a soup!!

I basically want to future proof my pc.

I will buy a 3D card + CPU cooler after a few months.

So i will be overclocking then after only i buy the remaining 2 parts. till then the stock.

My requirement is a better overclocking "reliable" mobo & ram. (service support in India a + point for mobo)

RAM: 4 gb

1) Kingston DDR3 1600 (with cooling fan)

2) GSkill PI white 1600 DDR3 (with heatsink)

Which one should i go for which will fit in the 25k & perform on OC-ing.

This RIG will be a gaming, photoshop editing, multitasking platform.

The final setup will be somewhat like this:

AMD X4 955 BE

mobo + 4gb RAM

Western digital 500 gb sata (32 mb buffer) (next month)

Graphic card + CPU cooler & maybe a cabnet (after few months)

SMPS 600W (already there)

Any suggestions on the 2 components welcomed.

AMD 955 BE owners, your inputs would be appreciated.

The last time I bought a PC was 6 yrs back, now with so many products it is a mind boggling task..:S

Thanks!!

Your budget being 25k for processor+mobo+RAM leaves 16k for mobo + RAM

1. GA-MA790GPT-UD3H

2. MSI 790FX-GD70 -~9k

Get G.Skill Ripjaws or OCZ Reaper 1600MHz RAM

Go for the Gigabyte. Has decent After sales service and pretty easy to RMA. Getting a RMA for the MSI mobos seems to be very difficult. People wer suggesting this in the core i-5 thread in the PC peripherals section. So +1 to the Giga :D
Do mention which brand of SMPS you have.

Cpu - Intel core i5-750 (2.66Ghz) - 10.2k

Mobo - Gigabyte GA P55M - UD2 - 6.7k

Ram - G.Skill 2x2gb 1333mhz ddr3 - 5.4k

Total - 22.1k

If you want to crossfire , then Asus P7P55D-PRO - 12k

Core i5 beats any AMD cpu .

Since this RIG will be a gaming, photoshop editing, multitasking platform , core i5 is better

Obviously Phenom IIx4 955 < Phenom II x4 965

cpu-i7-860 14.5k
Mobo - Gigabyte GA P55M - UD2 - 6.7k
Ram - transcend 2x2gb 1333mhz ddr3 - 4.7k

This config exceeds ur budget buy 1k but i guess its worth it (as u have mentioned photoediting and multi-tasking in ur requirements)..........if only gaming then go with the config wht anubis has recommended............. later its ur call :) u wont go wrong with either of them.

Guys which one would b better phenom 2 955 or 965... ?

mobo ga ma790gpt - ud3h with any of the abv cpu...'

Ram I doubt abt availability of ocz or gskills in kolkata so Corsair is only option which details @ 7k for 2*2gb 1333fsb...so bit high any other options r welcome...!

smps Corsair tx 650 any other options in this...'

Total budget 4 these r 28k...'

Guys need it urgent as I will b going today evening... '

And sorry 4 hijacking ur thread as I don't hav time to post new one...

Guys help needed urgently...'

To all those who have been suggesting the i5 and i7

The OP has indicated that he will buy a GPU much later. I suppose he expects to run his PC on the onboard gfx for now.

MSI 790FX GD70 is a great mobo but lacks onboard memory.
You can consider MSI 790GX-G65 instead (comes with onboard memory), but it crossfire at x8. 790FX better option for multi GPU setup (can even support quad fire).

though i5 option looks better to me.

Guys, the foxconn sockets are sitting like kings on almost every mobo in indian stores. Keep i5 away from buyers for a while atleast until lotes sockets arrive. Also, op has a plan of overclocking. So, at this situation, i5 is not recommended.

buddy, see the margin of difference.....that too its Anandtech !! (they favor Intel, globally accepted).

and also, in the gaming benchmarks, the i5 edges the i7 920 too, now how do u explain that ?

have a look at OCC:

For your information i think you forgot to check out the other 2 pages of the link you posted.

Nevermind , I'll do it for you

There you go, see in these 2 games i5 750 without HT beats i7 920 with HT

by 1 or 2 fps

Well that should not happen should it rajan1311 ?

1 or 2fps beating is also significant for a processor priced 15k and other processor 10k

A win is a win be it 1 or 2 fps or even by small margins

Why shold you spend more to get a 15k processor thats gets beaten by a 10k processor by 1 or 2 fps or even by small margins

Obviously you'll tend towards the cheaper processor

You cannot be wrong with AMD 955 or 965..Better to choose 125w 965 Be at around 10K. The MSI 790FX-GD70motherboard would be perfect. But you could save 3K with ASUS 785 Evo model or Gigabytes 785GMT. Both have reasonably good Audio and Video Capabilities. For People who are suggesting Intel all the timebetter see the below thread and understand both have there pro's and cons

AMDZone.com • View topic - AMD 955 vs. INTEL i5-750 and i7-860

If you search in Forums related to AMD we can see both sides of the story.

That show how accurate that review was :p

I just dont understand how u can call a 1fps advantage a victory. My point is the performance is very close to that of the phenoms. i7s are in a different league.(you can see effects in multi GPU tests)

Is there an alternative motherboard for the i5 for around 5k? OCing not required.
