Audio Q-TV2 doesnt split sound through both speakers

I have a strange problem with my Q-TV2 speaker system which is connected to my TV via optical cable, and to my sansa plus mp3 player via aux-in headphone socket. Both left and right speakers work when TV is the source, which means there is no problem with the speaker hardware itself. However, while with aux-in mp3 player output only the left speaker works while the right is silent.
Not able to isolate the problem: if its the sound system, or the player, or the software etc etc......
Please help
