Samsung unveiled its first smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear at IFA yesterday and today Qualcomm has announced its own smartwatch called Quallcomm Toq at IFA.

The Qualcomm smartwatch comes with wireless charging and Mirasol display technology. Unlike other backlit displays, the Mirasol display leverages the light around and provides improved visibility even in bright sunlight.

“Toq’s always on, always connected, always visible wearable technology gives you a ‘Digital 6th Sense,’ telling you what you need to know, when you need to know it, with just a glance at your wrist or a whisper in your ear. Toq is a showcase for the benefits of the Mirasol display, WiPower LE and stereo Bluetooth technologies and highlights the experience that the wearable category can provide,” said Dr Paul E. Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer of Qualcomm.

The Quallcomm Toq doesn't have any buttons. It connects to smartphones running Android 4.0 or higher using Bluetooth and gives notifications of calls, text messages etc . It uses a 200 MHz Cortex M3 processor. The battery life is said to be up to 5 days with moderate use and up to 3 days with heavy usage.

It can also control music playback on smartphones and with optional wireless headset, one can enjoy music without any wires.

The Qualcomm Toq will be a limited edition device, with only about 10 thousand units being sold. It will be sold for around $300.

this certainly looks good and better than the others available on the market. But what's the point of buying such kind of device which is just a sidekick for your phone and costs almost the same.
