Hi Friends :)

I decided to buy an 1TB external HDD (3.5inch) on coming saturday

Brand : Seagate / WesternDigital
Memmory : 1TB
Port : 3.5

Please help me for the below queries

1.which is the most reliable one from the above two bands?

2.I wish to buy Segate only because of 5yrs warrentry...the reason for considering WD is well reated in reviews in aspects of reliability..Please correct me if I am wrong

2.Is still Seagate is giving 5 yrs warrentry? If so while purchasing the 1TB HDD what should be crosschecked with the delear from my end?
4.today morning I enquired for 1 TB HDD (3.5inches) with one of the delear in SPRAOD Bangalore,He quoted (Seagate-4700+tax+creditcard transaction price) (WD-4900+tax+creditcard transaction price)..Is it the good deal or not?

5.From April month, I am going to shift from Bangalore to HYD...Hope the product purchased in Bangalore and warrentry will work out throughout the world ...correct me if i am wrong

6. For 1TB external HDD (3.5inches) apart from size and powersupply, are there any challenges with 1TB HDD in 3.5 inches..If so please explain me in detail...

7.Is there any specific series in segate or WD which needs to be considered while purchasing it ? If so please lemme know the prices with series details too

8.Purpose of taking 1TB is to store Docs/movies/audio files...After purchasing 1HDD, targeted data is 400-500 GB of movies in 1 week from my friends :hap2:

9.Just now I saw in other thread, not using HDD for a long time got dumped :(...if so what is the alternative solution for it?

Re: Queries on 1TB exteranl HDD (3.5inch)

I see that overall you are oriented towards reliability.

Answer to all questions: Western Digital Green 64mb cache ~ 4300 (including Tax) + 2% credit card transaction. (Model: WD10EARS)

The quote you got was Very high (typical when the dealer considers that buyer is a noob) So buy it from TE dealers to ensure a safe and correct-value deal.

Re: Queries on 1TB exteranl HDD (3.5inch)

you are welcome :)

WD comes with 5 year warranty. And they have National warranty for sure. Not sure about International warranty.

Buying locally is good as no shipping costs nor delays are involved.

A good dealer:

Ankit Infotech114, Sadar Patrappa Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560002080 22222354‎

While TE dealers (Delhi/mumbai usually) can ship you the HDD to your doorstep.

Check out: Dealer's paradise section in TE forums to know more. http://www.techenclave.com/dealers-paradise/

PS: Just a thought, 1.5TB WD Green is much more VFM than 1TB. Will cost you around 5600 though.

Re: Queries on 1TB exteranl HDD (3.5inch)

^^ I think the price you quoted are for internal drive not external :S. For external, the price quoted by the dealer to OP is a good one.

Re: Queries on 1TB exteranl HDD (3.5inch)

OP is original poster.
So the second one is that the price u got was pretty much standard.
Go with it no problem.

sato, he is looking for external drive
The price quoted to him, is very good, considering the Ebay prices are hiked up than the earlier pricing

If you care about the data a lot, go for Internal HDD + 3.5 casing (esata added)
4300+1800=6100 (but well worth the extra money)
