dont really know too much about joysticks for pc gaming, i jus need sum basic info like whether they really add an extra dimension to the experience, what games are best suited for a joystick, do most modern games support a force feedback?
hav never seen/researched these things, so wud appreciate a little bit of beginners info.

i can provide my inputs on controllers.

The XBox 360 controller is one of the best amongst game controller's for playing pc games. most of the games (games for windows titles) have native support for this controller. Yes, most new titles do provide force feedback.

Based on my experience with this controller i can say that, this controller is best suited for racing and sports games. for FPS games like crysis, where point precision is required for head shots, i prefer the mouse and keyboard. for other titles, its a different experience playing with this controller particularly because you get to lie on the couch and play thanks to the long 9 feet cable.

It costs about 1400-1800 here at lamington in mumbai for the wired controller and about 2400 for wireless.

you can check out the review here: Techgage - Xbox 360 Controller for Windows

google out for more info on this.

I hope you are not using joystick as a casual term for both gamepads and joysticks.

Gamepads are more preferred compared to joysticks with an exception to flight games which are rare but the analog sticks on the gamepads are sufficient for that task.

Most (almost every) games do support gamepads. If they don't you can always use joy2key to map keyboard and mouse controls to the gamepad.

Every game that supports gamepads has got forcefeed back options and almost all gamepads (these days) come with forcefeedback even chinese ones.

Ultimately a few games like DMC4 or Onimusha 3 or POP or SF4 are much better to play with a gamepad (actually it is a necessity for such games).

IMHO a Gamepad adds more than an extra dimension.

my suggestion would be to stick to wired controller. even i was inclined towards buying a wireless one for myself, but somewhere i read on some forum, that since its wireless, there 'can' be a slight lag in the response. since the receiver keeps on polling at certain intervals.

secondly, you would have to bear additional cost of AA batteries. The wireless controller does not come with a build in re-chargable battery. You may need to use AA batteries or buy the XBox battery pack separately. And higher force feedback would mean your battery would drain faster.

take your call.

i certainly dont need a wireless controller since the cabinet-monitor is jus 2-3 feet in front of me. wired is just fine. i think i shall purchase one and try it out.

+ I am using a wireless logitech rumblepad. I have not face in lag so far - but the problem is - you need extra batteries - some good one to last long - which will cost an additional 400-500 for a pair of good NiMh cell. And I feel the rumble-force feedback-vibration is bit less in my current wireless controller then my previous wired-twinshock controller. So if you are buying for a pc - stick with a wired controller; also i will suggest to get ms xbox controller instead of logitech one as the previous one nativly supported in most of the recent games

thanks for your input. i am ordering one thru prashaant on dealers section. getting one for 1250+100 shipping = 1350.

X360 controller is definitley the way to go. Games are a lot more fun with rumble. I myself got the wireless one recently
