Hi friends,
I came to know that there is new version of hardware EVDO (BSNL EVDO ZTE ac8710 3.1mbps - REV A this version of hardware is used in tata indicom photon and reliance net connect broadband + services) available. But in our area BSNL employees are showing me only ZTE ac8700 2.4mbps - REV 0.What should I do,Suppose if I buy EVDO rev A card in some other place like in chennai can I use it with old towers based on rev 0 (2.4mbps based) and other 144kpbs based towers.

One more doubt there is revised tariff for unlimited broadband in BSNL EVDO (Rs.999) as per news and only 5GB usage for Rs.650.But bsnl officials in our area told me the old tariff is still in effect. How do I know whether my plan is unlimited or limited with 5GB for the amount of Rs.650.

:S

1. You can only use the device provided by BSNL i.e. ZTE AC8700(Rev. 0) with BSNL EVDO connection. You can't use the EVDO device provided by TATA and Reliance(i.e. AC8710,Rev.A) in BSNL network
2. BSNL gives 2.4mbps DL speed for their EVDO connection against that of TATA and Reliance who give 3.1mbps.
3. BSNL also planning to implement Rev.A in their EVDO network but no one knows when will it happen.
4. All the Rev. A devices are backward compatible i.e., U can use Rev A devices in Rev. 0 network with Rev.0 speed.
5. Always check the connection strength/signal quality near ur place before u take BSNL EVDO connection.(You can Borrow ur friend's BSNL EVDO device to check the internet speed)
6. I dunno know about Roaming provided by BSNL in their EVDO network but I heard that they have introduced it, not sure. You should contact ur nearest BSNL exchange for the details.
7. You must contact the BSNL Staff/ Commercial Officer of ur area to get cleared about EVDO Tariff. There are lots of confusion going on this topic. But many ppl confirmed that the increased tariff is halted or new users have to pay the new tariffs.

Hope that these will clear all of ur doubts.

I have same requirements. Need wifi broadband when I travel home every 3-4 months. Last I checked all plans were postpaid. But things have changed now it seems. Check:

bsnl is still in the process of launching evdo...not much is available onli9...u can get in touch with guys from your city at India BB forum....try approaching the main WLL BSNL exchange from where devices are issued.........u wll get 144kbps on places without evdo...get exact tower locations from ur exhange...bsnl evdo is the only one that provides national roaming free of cost

Friends thank u for your valuable inputs,I still could not get proper information about availability of 8710 card in our area(coimbatore - tamilnadu). Is it possible to buy the card in remote places like in chennai or I should buy it in my area only and what model of 8710 EVDO is available in BSNL.As far as I know best model in 8710 EVDO is Huawei EC 1260 (ZTE AC 8710 model also available in market)
