Android Query about Galaxy S4

How much does it cost now mate ?. I assume the price is rock bottom now. But whatever high performance memory card you use, the speed is going to be limited by the usb mode the android system uses. Unless and until you use the card with mass memory mode or with a card reader you will not get the advertised speed. Even I am having a s4 and will buy a high capacity sd card if the future software updates being mass memory mode or equivalent which facilitates fast data transfer. Other than that if you are going to take out the card and use it with a card reader for mass files transfer then it's ok. I think the uhs cards are supported

No... I think you didn't understand my query... o_O
What I meant to ask was whether the memory operations performed by the phone on the sd card will be in high speed or not? since I recently got a S4 and wanted to buy a memory card with UHS support hence wanted to knw whether the phone will support it or not...

But as of now, I have already got a UHS support card and have found out that the phone doesn't support the high speed mode... Need to try it on a PC once, using card reader or something...

Kitkat has imposed insane limitations on sd card support, so it is difficult to say. By the way for what price you got the phone mate ? And is it deep black ?

I got the phone from TE forum only... not a new one...
I did some search and asked the samsung customer support too... it seems like the phone does not support UHS speeds... those speed are meant only for PC related operations and not phone related ones... Also some digital cameras support the UHS mode....

Longing for the lollipop update. This kitkat update is insane. It doesn't even allow me to rename a file/folder through a pc. Moreover renaming a file extension in the stock file manager is not possible. Wtf.
Moreover samsung cheats customers saying that the s4 has 16gb internal memory. When the o/s itself takes half the storage space and leaves room only for 8gb how can the company claim it has 16gb ?
Cunning and fraudulent samsung plays with the hard earned money of its loyal customers.

Sorry for going off topic mate. But you should have thought twice before buying it. Now the phone is 22k I think. And even the s5 didn't get rid of the storage issue it seems.

Did not lose much though... Got a 16gig sandisk ultra card for 500 from flipkart... Basic performance is good enough... so no worries there... ;)

Does Samsung Galacy S4 support the UHS speed mode memory cards? Need to know since I'm planning to buy one....
UHS means class 10 so it implies a write speed of 10MB/s

What class card are you using presently and what write speed do you get with it. Use a sd card app that measures this and post back.

Class 10 implies guaranteed 10MB/s speeds... UHS allows for more speed than class 10... Read this for more info - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_class_rating
I bought a card with UHS-1 specification and advertised speeds were upto 30MB/s... So was wondering whether those speeds could be achieved on a galaxy s4...
But currently i'm getting only 9-10 MB/s speeds on the card while using it in the phone... Need to test it on a PC to confirm UHS speeds...

That is normal for a class 10, to get up to 30MB/s you need an 'extreme' card. I don't know of any phone that supports UHS speeds, the controllers used do not mention UHS support at all.

I think it may be possible to get those speeds with the S4, i've seen these speeds tested with the Z1 but with an extreme card.

For what do you need such fast speeds though ?

Fastest way is to remove the sd card put it in a card reader attached to your pc and copy over and remove and put it back in your s4.

Yes that is the way to go as of now... I was expecting to copy stuff from OTG devices to memory card quickly... hence wanted to know whether S4 supports UHS...

You should be ok. Even hooked up to a PC i get 1GB/minute which is 15MB/s approx. That's the best you can expect with these cards.
