Query on DishTV signal strength?

Hi,

My Dishtv has been misaligned for a while and the CC of DTV is pathetic (well in my case it's been like that, dont know why). Once i had managed to align it on my own but now it has misaligned again. so before trying to self align it i would like to a few things:

- there are atleast 5 to 6 frequencies. The one that DTV uses is not the home transponder but it is the third one (12564 i guess dont remember exactly the number). when i align i use this as my signal meter.

- is it necessary that the signal strength of all transponders be the same or like above a certain level?

Please help as this will make my work easier.

regards - Sunil

i think signal strength of all transponders should be more than 60 for good reception. And they should be around the same figure +- 5

imo all cannot be the same figure. if you are going to align the dish yourself you should get a good signal meter without which you would just be wasting time trying to align the dish. It would then go for a hit and miss approach.

I always mark the alignments at first(with marker on the cross joint)...it helps if something goes wrong..

Don't really know how to explain ??..

:S

BTW : u always call Dish tv guys for realignment ...right?

How do you use mark the alignment? could you enlighten me on it.

i do call the DTV guys for realignment but they never turn up.

I always do alignment myself, as the dish tv guys show after after 2days of complaints.

Initially it was hard but then with a little practice, i got good at it.

i don't use any meter or any other fancy gadget.

Its the manual hit-try method.

Try this

1. Go to Dish TV Menu > Settings > STB Info > Press the Red Button.

This will take you to the List of Transponders page.

2. By using the arrow keys, go/highlight to the each Transponder and check the beep sound.

It increases to a high note as an when signal strength increases

Just keep this on and go outside make any adjustments to the Dish and it's position. and turn/Rotate the LNB a little for finer adjustments.

Dish tv is hosted on NSS6

for alignment angels see --> NSS 6 at 95.0°E - LyngSat

make sure all Transponders have around 60%(-/+5).

If you still can't do it, try contacting your local dealer.

Theres is a very simple way that dtv guys use without using a signal meter. They carry around a small 9inch tv. they plug the stb to the tv and the dish to the stb (usual settings) and then align so that the the signal is in the mean position.

i mean in one direction you will get signal max at one point then at other point it will be minimum. you then align the dish so that it is somewhere between the mean of the two readings.
